Posts: 78 | Looks good, how long of a glide does it have? Does it move much water? Does it make any whoosh sound?

Posts: 271 Location: davis,IL | About an 18 - 24" glide on a normal cadence retrieve, yes it does swoosh and move water. For the scaling patterns I use lint trap screening. I also make some other wtd baits that are very aggressive but I'm keeping them under wraps because of thier uniqueness. I made these so I could have something not quite as loud and obnoxious to throw at them.

Posts: 271 Location: davis,IL | I use poplar on these, they weigh 4-5 oz. The "other wtd's" I make are made of oak and weigh 5-6 oz for a 7.25" plug. All are 1.125" in diameter.

Posts: 271 Location: davis,IL | Yes, The WTD got a 42"..... But...!.... Things were tough ( 5 boated, 9 lost, 30+ seen).... but ... interesting.. Marked BIG Hook Echoes out deep ( 20 - 35' in 40' water). I've seen this a time or two before... never hooked up, to prove it was what I thought it was... well... after a few mid 30's pike, MY MAN... POP'S nailed a mid 40's fish in the middle of nowhere.... Guess I have to start working on some deep divers. How's about a pic of POP's and my new deep runner (sans the lip... I'm waiting for some from R&H). You DA'MAN ... POP's! Edited by muskydope 9/12/2009 3:30 AM Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]()

Posts: 4266 | Very nice quality paint jobs. I can tell that you dont rush things, The picture of 'Pops' is great. My dad was 'PA'. Nothing better than fishing with your dad, unless you're the dad and you're fishing with your kids. Beaver

Posts: 271 Location: davis,IL | Thanks for the kind replies..kind of interesting what you can do with $10 in spray paint from wallyworld. "Ole" Pop's has managed a 45" fish every year the last 3 years. He mostly sit's while casting, so it"s cost him some nice fish because of his very small "8". Our staple bait for years has been my spinners, which produce the majority of the fish (the topwater ain't too bad either). Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 271 Location: davis,IL | Yes, the X rap thing looks kool in the water ( wide wobble, lots of flash) I've found that lip placement, angle, & design are CRITICAL for a good running bait. After a few lip's from Roliie & Helens (3 big, 3 medium) I've found that the bigger lips are much less forgiving, the afore mentioned properties must be precise if you want a true running deep bait. I managed 30 ft with one of them, but.... it was so speed sensitive ( 2.9 - 3.3 mph) that it's a hard bait to run. So... I tried making my own lips, the design is a little different, but preliminary results look very promising. I've casted the straight one (perch) and it runs true no matter how fast I crank, the articulated... we'll she's just made and waiting for water. Hopefully Sunday conditions will allow me to drop the" boat in" and troll, we'll see about speed and depth, (do they run true?). Casting at least it had a wobble similar to a Swim Whiz. I'll post my results... win or lose. Attachments ---------------- ![]()
