Sounds like Crestliner is having a pretty big recall on boats . Problem is that they do not meet the USCG level floatation codes. Says in letter sent to owners that the kit to fix this "may alter storage areas or compartments." Boats that I have heard fall into this so far are 167 Kodiak, 1650 Fish Hawk, 1600 Angler, and 1750 Fish Hawk. Not sure what years this covers or if other models are affected.

Does anyone have more info on this?

I got a letter on my 2004 1750 Fishhawk. Not sure yet where the need to add the floatation. Hopefully it does not amount to much space in a storage area.

Has anybody had this recall modification done yet on a 1750 fishhawk? Closest dealer is 90 miles away from me now and wondering what it entails and how it affects storage.

I received the letter but haven't taken it in yet. I have a dealer about 15 mins away, so hopefully I can get it in after the season. (hopefully it doesn't capsize in the meantime lol)

Not doubting any of the info but it does seem odd that an 1850 fishhawk tiller would be in the recall, a SC not in the recall and the 1750's not in the recall after 05 but the 1700's are.

Yes, that is odd Todd. I have the 1850 Fish Hawk SC and have not received a notice. Sounds like I got off the hook this time!

Wish I knew where they are adding the flotation, not sure how the 1850's differ. With regards to the 1750 pre and post 2005, they are different boats. The pre 2005 1750's are the same as the current 1700's. The 2005 and newer 1750's are a bit longer and wider with center rod locker storage, center fuel tank storage, and a number of other differences. For some reason the brought the old 1750 design back as a "1700" minus the deck extension behind the livewell.

One thing that I noticed on the newer 1750's was that the carpeted panel on the back end of the freeboard is wider than the older 1750's. I assume that this is where they figure they need to add the floatation.

If this is the case, they will not like what I have done to my 2004 1750. I put some rain gutter downspouts in this spot so that I could slide rod tips to prevent rod guide damage for anybody fishign from my back deck that might step on it.

Yake, just had mine done and they do add some foam there above the rear deck. They also add foam to the open area behind the fuel tank and a piece on top of the fuel tank. This is on the 1750 pre 2006. Each model is going to be different.

The piece that is added above the deck is pre formed so it would be easy to remove or cut to fit. They do not spray foam into that area.

yea, the only way to know is to call your dealer. i have a 07 1600 Fish Hawk and he said the only thing i would notice is a 3-4" deep piece in the footwell under the console. so we'll see once it actually gets installed though...

Thanks for the info. The foam in the fuel compartment is no big deal. If possible, would like to see a picture of the foam that they put above the deck, or do they put it behind the existing carpeted panel?

It goes behind the panel, it is preformed in a bag to fit behind the panel.

Do you know if we could just do it ourselves? I have had the fuel compartment open and could probably do the whole thing in under an hour. Its just a bunch of screws and power tools make it quick. It seems doing it myself might be easier than taking it all the way in.

Can't do it your self. Part of it is spraying in some foam in most models and Crestliner is shipping some large 2 part foam contraptions to do this to the dealers. Also with the Coast Gaurd involved I think that it needs to be done by a dealer.

If you're concerned about it, and you boat works fine, why would you bother with the recall? Just forget about it.

Because the boat might sink if she swamps, which is a bad thing. Pretty good reason for a recall.

Steve,

The recall notice is specific to level attitude when swamped. They do meet USCG basic flotation requirements that they float with a portion of the hull above the water line if swamped.

If you are concerned about it and haven't recieved a letter just call cresltiner 320 632 6686 the recall is on different models but not all. I have a 2005 1750 Fishhawk Dual Counsel, I called Crestliner the told me if the boat was ordered as a dual counsel there is no problem.

It's called upright and level flotation. If the rig doesn't meet that requirement, swamping could result in the rig not helping much acting as something to hold on to, and it wouldn't take much overload to put her down.
