For those of you that have them, can you comment on their rough water or big lake capability....I fished out of one before just one time and I am considering purchasing a used one, but I don't know how they would handle big or rough water or how they would be for the occasional walleye or panfish outing..Any comments and experiences would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Craig R.

The Mag is designed for use on inland lakes, and will perform well on most waters up to 6000 acres. It isn't a 'big water' boat by any measure, yet I've had many successful trips to LOTW, Wabigoon, and other big lakes in a Mag. Keith and I just acquired a 'project' Esox LTD, can't wait to get her on the water. It was my rig I sold in 1995! I'll be fishing Pelican and other waters locally out of the rig.

If most of your use will be on big water where 3' seas are common, I'd look for a used 1700 or 1760.

Thanks for the info. I do fish most of the time in WI, but do take a yearly trip to Canada "Minaki area" and I do fish the lower fox and the Bay a few times....What are your thoughts on these waters and this boat.

Thanks for the replies.

I fished Minaki many times from a low profile Tuffy, no problems. If the seas are not to be over 2- 3' on the Bay, you'd be fine.

i ran mine[60 hp tiller]on rainy, wabigoon, wabaskang and several other big lakes in waves up to 4 foot.like steve said,3 foot is about the max for that hull.i always liked the way the boat handled in most any condition.it was easy to troll forward or back, like it was on a rail.overall a very stable and capable fishing platform.the only reason i switched to a 1760 was that my wife was along for the ride in 4 footers and when we made it back to the dock she said
"we need a bigger boat"! so not wanting to pee her off,i did what she said:] and got a bigger boat.now i need to take her for a ride in my truck.

thanks for the reply guys, from what I hear, it is a great platform for not only musky fishing, but also for backtrolling for walleyes and panfish...How skinny of water can this thing run in?

Thanks again,

Craig R.

I own one and have fished LOTW and Minaki out of one. We went through four footers with no problem. Leech or Cass may be a problem. Where do you fish most of the time would determine my decision. I have fished out of alot of boat types that are more expensive and I would still prefer my esox. The room, low profile, and stability with two people casting on the same side has sold me.
