Posts: 463 Location: Sw Pennsylvania | I'm doing a little research for a local club on lakes that have had size limits of muskys increased to 50". I'm looking for reports or studys conducted after lakes had been under the size limit for atleast a few years, the negatives or positives, how it affected the size of the fish and if it affected other fish populations, basically both sides, those for it and those against. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be a big help! Thanks in advance!

Posts: 32955 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The only waters that have had a 50" plus limit in place log enough are Canadian, look to the MNR up in Ontario for information. I remember quit a bit of information during the sessions at the most recent Muskie Symposium.

Posts: 295 Location: Southern Ontario, Detroit River and Lake StClair | Guelph University has done a pile of studies on Muskie like what your looking for. Most of which have been put online. Check out their website and maybe do a search or two. I'm sure you'll find some info there Tim

Posts: 2024 | Don't just limit your search to using 50" size limits. You want to show that an increase in size limits can benefit the "quality" of a fishery. Try "Margenau 40 inch length limit" or something to that effect. That's a good paper if you can find it. Use the citations from that paper to find others. Hope that helps!

Posts: 8863 | Another source of info might be the lunge log, if you're a muskies inc member. It would be a bit of work to extrapolate the data you need, but it would (should?) paint a pretty decent picture of the trend towards bigger fish on lakes where higher size limits were enacted. Sounds like a cool project!
