I have a quick question for those of you who use these boxes. Doesn't the sunlight fade the baits that you are stroing in them? I am wondering if the sunlight may damage them in any way. The back of some soft tackle manufacturers state not to keep them in direct sunlight. Do these boxes protect these baits?

I wanted to respond to your posting by attaching a graph provided by the manufacturer of the polycarbonate that Just Encase uses for the boxes. I asked the same question of the technical support people a while back. It is on website of Bayer Material Science - manufacturer of the Makralon brand of polycarbonate. The polycarbonate blocks the UV rays from entering the box per the manufacturer and it shows it in the graph from 0-385 nanometers. (basically where UV rays reside in the light spectrum) In a nutshell, the UV rays do not reach the baits. Apply carnauba car wax on the outside of the box each year or two and you should never have any issue.

From Wikipedia:
Ultraviolet (UV) light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength shorter than that of visible light, but longer than x-rays, in the range 10 nm to 400 nm, and energies from 3 eV to 124 eV. It is so named because the spectrum consists of electromagnetic waves with frequencies higher than those that humans identify as the color violet.

Hope this helps...

does anyone know the difference between the polycarbonate they use, and acrylic sheeting you could buy at homedepot. I was thinking about making one because its cheaper. It says it is UV stabilized thoughout the whole sheet what ever that means.

UV Stabilized only means that the plastic it self will not change color and get brittle;e in sunlight.
