Has anyone had problems with Promariner onboard battery chargers? I thought my batteries (4 seasons old) went bad. They would only charge a quarter of the way. I now think it may be my charger.
I bought new batteries and hooked them up to the charger and it charged for 20 min and then stopped charging showing full charge on the charger. The battery condition gauge on the boat indicates they are only a quarter charged. Voltage on new batteries is 13.0, I know that new batteries do not come fully charged.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar condition.

yep, different situation, same brand of charger. had to replace mine earlier this year. thought my batteries were bad, actually checked the water levels and they were way low!! Thought it was the batteries, turned out to be the charger.. read a lot of bad reviews on that brand, so purchased a bass pro brand, love it so far!!!

Might be the charger or maybe not. When you buy a battery it should be fully charged or slightly discharged from setting. When you put it on a charger, it could be very possible the charger would detect it as charged and turn off pretty quickly.

If you charge a battery and turn the charger off, wait an hour, it would be very possible to read 13.0 volts on the battery. After it sets for a while, some of the "surface charge" will drain off and the open circuit voltage of the battery should be down in the 12.6 to 12.8 volt range.

I would not be too quick to get down on the charger. Four year old batteries are due for replacement. If they develop shorts in the cells they may not take a charge.

Had a Pro Mariner explode during a trip to LOTW four years ago. Was the stock charger in my Crestliner 192 and was in the trolling battery compartment under the center floor rod locker. No ventilation and I was later told Pro Mariners need ventilation. Go figure why Crestliner would put them in that compartment if they need ventilation. Anyway, replaced it with a Dual Pro and no problems since. Dual Pro specifically advertises that their chargers don't need ventilation and I've heard they're very quick to replace one if it fails.
