I am new and this may have been discussed before but...has anyone used both Power Pro and Spiderwire Stealth? What do you like better (casting v. trolling v. ect.)? I have run out of line and need to make a purchase. Thanks for your help! Paul Best

I use both. But i am liking the stealth this year. I got a spool of powerpro that was quite waxxy. Either line is very good. The stealth seems to have a smaller diameter. But after alot of use you can barely tell which is which once the color fades. Flip a coin, you can't go wrong with either.

What reel are you putting it on? Power Pro seems to be a decent all around line for most reels but it's drawback is the severity of the backlashes, you can get some nasty ones. Stealth, I have had on two reels and it did not perform well. Lots of backlashes. I have found however that some lines seem to work well with the wire guide levelwind reels and some work better on the small hole levelwind reels. The reels i used the Stealth on were the small hole. I suspect the line does not work as well with that type of levelwind. Corltand materbraid for instance works well on the wire guide levelwind and very poor on the small hole levelwind.

Used Stealth for years...hate PowerPro personally....but now pretty much all my reels are 80 lb Cortland Master Braid Bronzeback...take a look at it at the store...great stuff...2nd favorite is 80 lb Stealth, then some of the Tuf Line brands

THe main difference between the two is that PP is a wax coated line and once the wax wears off which is pretty quick the line soaks up water like a sponge. Spealth is impregnated with Teflon which does not wear off like wax so the line does not saok up water like PP does. Stealth also has on average one more carrier than PP so it is rounder although I don't feel that's all that important but some people really care about it being rounder.

PP was the best line out there when it came out about 15 years ago but they have not changed it one bit since it came out and there has been a lot of subtle, but important, changes in super line since then.

Don't forget to try Suffix. It stays dry and is quiet. Power Pro is loud and wet. Never tried Spiderwire because once i went with Suffix i never wanted to switch.

I have used PowerPro for many years and have yet to lose a fish because of line failure...............it is very good line. I can't comment on the Stealth, haven't tried it.

Power Pro was one of the best, I guess I have to ask are U using the same reels and rods that you used 15yrs ago today ??? With all the NEW lines that have come out in the last year, why are you still using the same line you used 15yrs ago ?????

A good product is a good product.  If a line, lure, reel, or any product fits one's needs well and is high quality, why WOULDN'T one continue to use it?

Im using the Stealth in 65 on two reels this year, and it has worked out nicely. I'm using Gorilla Braid on two reels as well, and I think it's great line.

I had been using Power Pro but really got tired of trying to get the knots out on a backlash. I switched to Spiderwire Camo this year and have not had a single problem. Any backlash I have had just pulls right out. My opinion also would be to stay away from Power Pro Red. It comes off all over your rod and reel! Just saying I made the switch and am glad I did!

Because products become obsolete with new technology. Products evolve from new technology, so a product that is good this year will become obsolete next year because of new technology. So Steve how's your Model T running ?????

Roughneck1860 So I guess you have no DCG10-13 & BULLDAWGS in your tackle box ???? MAN just keep a open mind to NEW PRODUCTS, I still use Suicks but the ones that I use today have the latest technolgy with the hooks and paint and split rings. A lot of baits started out made in wood, now today they have evolved and now they are made of hard plastic resin. Dacron line was the best in it's day but it has evolved into superlines of today.

Actually I have plenty of both. My point was that just because there's always "new and improved" versions of products coming out that doesn't always mean that the old ones are outdated. What makes them new and improved? Lower manufacturing costs? I guess it would all depend on how good their marketing guy is as to why they are better for the consumer. The latest and greatest aren't always........well....the greatest. You have to keep an open mind both ways.

If a product is high quality, serves my purpose, and I'm comfortable with it, there's no need to use another product for that purpose. If it's still available, guess what....it's still selling and meets LOTS of folks needs, so it's hardly obsolete.

Some new products are not necessarily superior to the stand-by in the trade, some are; if I see an improvement I think is merited, I'll try the new product. So far, I like good old Gorilla Braid as well as any of the new superlines, a personal preference. I'm sure it will become unavailable eventually, and I'll then use Stealth. Cody Roswick asked me to try it, and I found it to be a great product.

I never owned a Model T; way before my time. I truly wish I had one sitting in the driveway right now.

Why is it that a few guys on here always just seem to want to argue? Someone will post a legitimate question, just seeking some input and the post ends up with a negative tone because someone can't keep their mouth shut. I am not saying someone can't disagree on something, but I am assuming most of us are adults here and should be able to do so in such a manner. Let's grow up, this is a quality website and I would like to see it stay that way.

By the way, I have been using Power Pro and Tuf-Line XP and have not had any problems with either. I agree with a few of the posts above, these are all good products so start with the least expensive and evaluate from there.

I used Stealth for about 2 or 3 years and preferred if over Power Pro based on the impregnated teflon being more durable than the coating on Power Pro. Now I am using Ultra Cast (Spiderwire) and like it much better than both. Haven't tried some of the others yet and would also be interested in comparisons.

I also am trying Fireline Braid, seems to be excellent line. Not sure it's better than Stealth, both are excellent superlines.

The new Berkley braid in Camo, Tracer, are some of the best line to come out this year, also trying out Code Red, this line holds the color and will not fade.

What reels are you putting the stealth on? I have sme 100lb on a penn 975 and had some 65lb for one outing on a pfleuger low profile reel and took it off. The penn backlashes constantly, just waiting for one I can't dig out. My other two penns have invisibraid and I have no issues with those reels.

I find that other lines work well on some reels while others do not.

I have been using stealth exclusively for 3 years - awesome line!!! - Works great on Toro's, Calcutta's,Luna'a, Saltist's, Okuma's, and Phlueger's. (and pretty confident any other reel manufactured)

I spool up on Abu Garicas 6000 and 7000 sizes but I do use a 40# mono backing to partly fill the spool using an albright knot to make the splice.

Was out with a well-known guide this summer and he asked what kind of line I was using when a bait went flying after line breakage on a backlash on my Saltist 30lw (I've found this reel to be somewhat prone to backlashes casting into the wind with 10s)...When I said Spiderwire, he replied, "Ouch". "Why?", i asked. "exactly that reason" Happened three times to me with the 80lb stealth that week...(Was able to recover all baits by searching for the floating line) Anyhow, He, too, had breakage problems on backlash tosses of 10s using Spiderwire stealth 80lb. He recommended PP or Cortland...will try that. I'm guessing though, that only so many backlash mid air stoppages of the bait can be withstood by any line.
