I have had similar fish in my aquarium, although it was a Red Snake head and not a Northern Snakehead. I must say that these fish are incredibly aggressive and hardy. My cousin and I, in the past, have discussed the probablitiy of a fish like this surviving in the waters around here (WIsconsin) since every now and then someone will catch a pirahna that was released into a lake. The only good thing (and I say that very lightly) is that the northern snakehead dosen't grow as large as the red snakehead. If I remember right, the northern snakehead can grow to roughly 1 meter, while the red snakehead can grow up to 2 meters.

The water systems that are unfortunate enough to have these fish introduced to them are going to be decimated. I have heard that they have been found in California and Florida as well as in Maryland. Not a good sign....

Dude, I read the paper last night about this fish. What a disaster it would be if this thing started spreading. We could all pretty much kiss our fishing goodbye. Hopefully the right people get controll of this thing.[:blackeye:]

I think we need to put Sponge on the case to eradicate these snakeheads from Maryland.

Lol Derek...that article came out in the local paper a week or so ago...can't believe the dude threw it back in!!! Peeps let all kinds of stuff go around here + no doubt they will if not already be in Va. They are a food fish for some Asian folks + are sometimes set free for religious purposes. Bad thing is, they can survive COLD temps, so I guess no state is exempt. Hopefully they can eradicate them...I'd start by draining the pond it was caught in then gill net the eastern seaboard![;)]

Lol Sponge...draining the pond and gill netting the whole east cost?...too much effort Pal, just "Dundee Em"...couple sticks of dynamite and they're history Pal! And...if ya plant them charges right, they'll be back over in MD too!! Heck, a few more stix and y'all probably have em all the way back to Asia...[:0] [:sun:] [;)]
