| Got an '88 Siverado Suburban last week + need to know:
Towing- around 1,000 lbs maximum, do I leave it in overdrive or just drive...we are heading to a campground west of here + it starts to get pretty steep in some of the areas along the Interstate. Waiting to get an Owners Manual...thanks for the advice! |

| Sponge, on my '88 I leave it in overdrive. I even run the air with no problem. My suggestion since you said you were going through some hill, is that if you find it coming out of overdrive alot, take it out. have fun camping.[:)] |

| Thanks Todd...I may even take the assorted sponges w/ me![;)] |

| Sponger....
I've had an 85,87 & 95 Suburban.
All three I have pulled that kind of weight in overdrive without any problems.....
Here's what I recommend for long trouble free trany life on GMC/Chev trucks....
If it doesn't have a factory trany cooler go to Napa and get a trany cooler that attaches to front of A/C condensor for around $30....
I also ran Mobile sythetic trany fluid in all 3 of my units. Drove the 85 and 87 to over 200k miles with no problems.....
Good luck,
Mark |

| sponge, I've got a 97 suburban and the owners manual says to leave it in overdrive when towing ecept when in hilly areas where the trans is constantly shifting |

| Thanks Mark, it has the trans. cooler already on it. Found it last week; a lawyer had it + his wife has been driving it the past 5 yrs...his dad bought it new so it has a been a 1 family vehicle. Couldn't pass it up, especially since I reminded him that it appeared he had amassed a small fortune + was due for a good deed to someone less fortunate![:0]
* Thanks Yeti...the more reports I hear the better I feel! Buddy of mine got a 94 last yr. + we would zip east for some surf fishing + I said then I had to get one; suckers have more than enough room for everything...dude, the "Dells" is on the Early Show news program...pretty cool area of Wisconsin! |
