Posts: 212 | I know topcoats are one of those preference things, and I've been using Devcon 2 Ton and been really pleased with the way they hold up. I think part of this is due to the fact that I've had some pretty good mixes, based on the fact I used the smaller 25 mL syringes from Walmart. Each of my larger baits uses one two of these syringes from start to finish, so my dad suggested trying to get larger quantities. I thought about it and didn't want to compromise the convenience of measuring, so I saw Devcon makes 50mL syringes as well. So I decided to check the prices of wholesalers in my area and made quite the discovery. The tubes at the local hardware store are 3.99 retail. From Fastenal, a wholesaler, the tubes are sold by the case, 140.48 a case of (24) 25mL syringes. I'm getting them from Wal-Mart for 1.97 a piece, almost $100 less than wholesale if you do the math for the case...I'm not making a ton of baits, maybe 55 so far over the last two years. I'm not looking to change my coat, I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything where Wally is cheaper than wholesalers??

Posts: 34 Location: OHIO | I'd say if you're able to get D2T from Walmart at all, then consider yourself lucky.. They stopped stocking it at my local Wally here in Ohio.. They had it for $1.97 per syringe as you stated.. I bought it for about a year there, then they bumped the price up to $2.97..hahah..Supply/demand I guess...At the start of "09 they removed it altogether for another brand.. Im buying it from a local chain hobby store, Hobbytown USA, in a 2 bottle 16oz kit for somewhere in the range of $14-$17.. The bottles have a very narrow neck, squeeze spout, so dispensing small mixing portions is quite easy.. I recently switched to a similar 16oz kit of E-Tex as it seems to be far less brittle when cured.. D2T is strong as all heck, but it cracks if you smack a lure against rip-rap rocks, etc..The E-Tex seems to a have a little flex to it, have yet to crack a crankbsit, but it takes longer to cure.. Using D2T, I rotate lures for 10 minutes then hang 2 hours, no runs..With e-Tex I rotate 60 minutes then hang for 12 hours.. I've also noticed that so far anyway, I havent had any low spots in my epoxy surfaces w/E-Tex, something that annoyed me w/D2T when coating larger baits 6"-10" size..Both did excellent on small cranks, just had impact cracks develop w/D2T... Posts: 194 | I am in construction when I'm not fishing. I have delt with Fastenal before. IMO they are anything but a "wholesaler." They are a retailer and typically charge a premium. I don't buy anything from them unless I have to.

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | I have used up the last of my devcon too and can no longer get it at Wal-Mart. I like Devcon when I am just doing one or two baits, a good clearcoat. Wish I could find it for a reasonable price again. Jed
