I picked up a 8' 6" Tica up at Thorne's up at Mille Lacs to go with my Saltist 40 HA, and must state it is an incredible rod for the $. It is telescoping, which until I used it I had no faith in their durability. The price is right since I do not fish that much, and they are so light compared to the Shimano's. I had a Shimano 16N, and just could not get accustomed to using my thumb to put the line on the spool evenly. I picked up a used Saltist 40HA on MFirst classifieds, and to me this is a great reel for $300 less than the Trinidad 16N. I'm a fan of Okuma, but since they are almost impossible to find in Minnesota, I went with the spur of the moment Tica, and have not be happier with a rod purchase in 30+++ years.

Congrats's on your new combo, alway rewarding when you spent that I kind of money and you are happy with the results ... I put and 30HA Saltist on an 8'6" Fenwick Elite Tech, and love it so far! A little more money, but figure it is worth it if it last me many happy years of use. Manually engaging the the spool after casting takes a little getting use to but is not a problem after you get use to it.

I like the Tica's as well. I own an older 8'er and a newer 8'6" XH. Both are excellent rods for multiple applications. They seem to hold fish better then a few of my other rods as well...

...Now they just have to offer a lifetime warranty for them.
