Looking at getting a new trolling motor this week sometime and I'm pretty sure that this is the one I'm going to get. It will have the 54" shaft. Just wondering if anyone else has gotten this trolling motor and if they did where did you purchase it at? I live in western Wisconsin and the best price I've found is up at Reeds in Walker, MN. It has free shipping and handling included with the purchase.

Also what sort of accesories will I need to go with it? I have a Humminbird 535 FishFinder mounted in the front that I would like to use. I contact Minn-Kota and they told me I would need an adapter for the finder, a 60 amp circuit breaker, and a possible quick release mount.

I'm also wondering if the Terrova has the same power source as my current Minn-kota PowerDrive 40lb? The plug looks like a circle with a V-notch taken out of the top. That's what my boat has so I'm wondering if those are unviersal or not?

Thanks in Advance!
Dylan

I got the same, but in 60" shaft early this season. You should be ok with the power source (plug)

As far as mounting goes I believe you can get an adapter to use your same quick-release mount from the Power Drive. I ended up getting the quick release bracket #MKA-21 which is a low-profile type mounting. http://www.minnkotamotors.com/products/accessories/quick_release_br...

Mounting the bracket was a bit of a pain to ensure the motor sat all the way down onto the bracket so that the locking handle holes lined up. Looking back I would just get the standard quick release bracket that I had on my power drive unit. http://www.minnkotamotors.com/products/accessories/quick_release_br...

I ended up ordering mine through Gander Mtn in Green Bay (no special fees). Didn’t have to pay shipping if I recall, and I actually got a better price on the unit than I would have through Cabelas.

Thanks for the information. Do you like the unit overall?

Dylan, just save the plug from your old motor as they don't always come with one. I have that same unit, and have run it very hard for over 2 seasons now with no trouble(knock on wood). The only thing I would caution is to make very sure that 54" is long enough. I have the 60" and at times could use more. you can always have a shaft cut down, but it is even more expensive to have a new longer one installed. I would also recomend the copilot. Not sure if Minn Kota is still running a rebate or free remote for those or not, but they are very useful as well. Good luck.

I have that exact motor with a 60" shaft and love it. I would prefer that it would have the mount like on a Maxxim but overall I'm very happy with it.

One item you will want to get if you don't already have it is a RAM mount to lock down the head unit when trailering or making real long runs. Trust me this is something you will need!

I have the same set-up as well in the 60" shaft and I love the AP. I would also second getting the co-pilot, makes speed changes easier and is really useful when fishing with someone that isn't as experienced or when dealing with a fish because you can leave the pedal and still be in control.

What kind boat do you run? That will likely determine shaft length. I have a bass boat and 54" was more than enough, but if my boat sat any higher I'd get the 60" shaft.

How much space do you have on the bow for a quick release bracket? That may determine which quick release bracket you'd want if you need one. I used the MKA-21 because that is all that would fit on the bow of my boat without having to move the front light. Works fine for my 101lb Terrova. I didn't/don't have any issues getting the holes to line up.

As far as the plug, the one you have will likely work but you will need to check the guage of wire you have in your boat. Sounds like you are going from a 12V to a 24V system. I'm not an electrician so I can't give you great advice, but somebody else here should be able to tell you what you need at a minimum to run a 24V system.

You will need an adapter for the sonar unit.

Best price? I found some steals on Ebay when I was looking this spring. Ended up getting a clearance motor from Minn Kota through a buddy for $770. Not bad for a $1440 motor! Look around, you may be surprised at the deals you can find.

I'm pretty sure the rebate period ended in July.

I run a 165 Alumacraft Navigator. I contacted the dealer where we got the boat to see what it would cost to have them do the entire thing. I'm hoping it's not super pricey. Plus that way I know it's been done properly (Atleast I'd hope it's done properly!) Currently it has a PowerDrive 40lb which is way to weak for the boat. It has the 48" shaft and I don't generally have issues with being in waves and it coming out of the water, going up to the 60" seems like it might be a bit extreme.

I just upgraded from a Alumacraft 160CS, Dominator (I think that was the model). I only had a 54" shaft on that and it worked fine, I can only remember a couple times the motor popped out of the water. I like to fish walleyes in the spring on Mille Lacs and that lake can get a bit rowdy at times popping even a 54" out of the water.

On your boat, assuming the wiring is already in place to support a 24V system (I'd bet it is), installation should be pretty easy. You should be able to access the underside of the bow from the compartment up front. If so, and you use a quick release bracket, installation should be as easy as marking/drilling a few holes and tightening bolts/nuts. Then you just have to attach whatever electrical plug you are going to use and install an inline breaker by the batteries and you're done.

The dealership will probably try to charge you $100-200 to install. I did my own without any guidance on both my current and former boat in less than two hours. I like doing my own work because if something breaks down I know where to look and I already have the tools to deal with it. Rigging is a lot easier than it looks, it's just scary when you start because you're drilling holes in your boat!
