Location: Des Moines IA | What are they used for? I have seen them on a couple of boats now, not sure where they come into play though?

Posts: 335 Location: Minnesota | Looks to me like it is a method of anchoring.

Posts: 646 Location: In a shack in the woods | They silently drop down into the lake bottom and stop you. It works like a fast noiseless anchor.

Location: Des Moines IA | Thanks for the link. I don't fish that shallow very often, probably wouldn't use it much at all. I could see it being a great toll for flats fishing though.

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | That''s correct, they're a shallow water anchor, good to about 6' in some chop, or up to 7' in flat water. Lake St. Clair is characteristically a shallow lake, and my PP has paid for itself more times than I can count. I love it. And before someone says, "just use an anchor...." Comparing a PP to an achor is like comparing a trolling motor to a set of oars and a GPS to a chart and slide rule. Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | They start at about $1400, and that's not installed. Mine, with remote, and WavePak (just an accumulator that keeps the spike on the bottom in the waves) and bracket was just under $2000.

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | I second the guest on this one. This contraption: 2000 dollars Anchor: A hell of a lot less, for even a high end anchor. I wish I could come up with something that was ridiculously expensive and mildly useless. I'd be rich.

| I guess it would depend on where you are at...St. Clair it is probably priceless...a sheild lake, probably useless... | |||

Those that compare it to anchor, if they want to throw and retrieve an anchor 30 times a day while drifting a 5' flat, casting and messing with a fish, they can be my guest. I can drift a weedbed for two hours and never hit the trolling motor, and yet have complete control over the speed of my drift. LSC is not that much at all about structure, it's about straight line drifts over shallow weeds. For me, fishing 4-6 days a week April-December it pays for itself with being able to stop the boat on a drift to cover a patch of cabbage or stop on a dime and fan cast in a 1.25 mph drift and not miss water. Especially fly casting. I've said it before, comparing a PP to an anchor is like comparing a trolling motor to a set of oars or a GPS to a chart and slide rule. Not much good on deeper water, but on a body of water with an average depth of 11' and half the year spent lesst han 6', it's awesome. Edited by esoxfly 8/23/2009 10:14 PM

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Although that price is higher than I would have initially guessed, I can see where that PP would be a neat tool if you were able to use it a lot. In the situation Esoxfly talks about, it would be MUCH more useful than an anchor. I'll never own one, since my boat is in over 8 feet of water much more often than it's in less. Pointer, maybe you could come up with something if you spent your time engineering products rather than coming up with consistently 'mildly useless' replies on this board. curleytail

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Lets be honest....that simply wont happen! I can see how it would be useful in Fly's situation....but for the common musky/inland water angler this tool has no real value. At least in my opinion. Saltwater flats, maybe more useful.

| it does look like a very quick and handy way to sit until you have thouroughly covered the water. I just use an extra cleet to wrap up 2 feet of rope (pull up anchor) until the next stopping point. | |||
