Do baits with a tail work better than ones without a tail? When should tails be used and are most effective? What types of baits should be used with a tail or never be used with a tail?

Obviously, I haven't fished many lures with tails and am curious what type of lures or baits would be best to fish tails. as well as, when not to use tails. What lures are most productive with or without tails?

thanks for your input....

Personally I do not care for baits that have a soft plastic tail affixed to a hard body bait. The action seems muted by the plastic. I know it gives a little more shake and wiggle, but I just don't care for them. I'm sure some people love them, but not this guy.

On the other hand there is only one soft body bait with a tail that I throw on a consistent basis and that is the bulldawg. Love those things.
