yesterday while out on the lake the alarm started to go off. i have an 03 90 hp merc four stroke. the oil level was good had water coming out the back also. it seemed the alarm would go off right away if it was in reverse and it was off and on when i was going forward

Check for a blockage in the intake.

yep, or your impeller is just starting to wear out. had the same problem last fall when I would idle slowly and that's what it was

on my brotherinlaws merc it was in the ignition. the key wouldnt return to the proper position after starting it so he just turns the key back a hair ,alarm goes off ,might be that simple
