I got a Okuma Induron 400 this spring and have had nothing but problems with it. Right from the start the reel started to engage mid cast which lead to some gear problems. I sent a PM to California Muskie and Mark helped me get in touch with someone in Okuma who had me send the reel back for repairs. I got it back last week and took it out for the first time and I am having the same problems. The people I dealt with at Okuma were great and they got the me my reel back fast. Was wondering if anyone else has been having problems with the Induron. I am less than 2 weeks away from heading to Lake Vermilion and I need a new reel. Anyone know of a good reel for around the same price as the Induron, something that can handled double cowgirls.

Might as well just put in a few extra dollars and get a Calcutta 400b, I had very similar issues with the Induron myself

Spend some extra $$$ and get a REVO 60 - they rock (and i've never said that about an ABU until now)

I had 2 of the same reels sent in to have fixed and got them back this Spring, and mine work just fine....
If your "burning" Cowgirls don't use the Induron, get something like a 14,or16 Trinidad or a 30 or 40 Saltest......or a Calcutta 400....... Something that can handle the drag that Cowgirls put out.

Use the RIGHT tool for the job.

I had the same problems with an induron and when I got it back worked great and use it with the power handle and cranks DCG's no problem. Only thing I had to do was scoop out the original grease and lube it up real good. For the price of the reel I have no problems with it.

Not trying to bash Okuma, I do mention in the post that the customer service from Okuma was good. California Muskie has helped me a lot, sent me a power handle for the Induron and got me in touch with the Okuma to get the repairs done. I was just wondering if other people are having similar problems with the Induron.

I had a problem with one of my reels not wanting to re-engage but after I sent it in there has been no problems whatsoever. The customer service was perfect, much more than I can say for ABU who pretty much told me "too bad".

I have a couple Indurons and they have been great reels so far. One of the main reasons I went with them is because of what I have read about their customer service (and great price of course) . I did a lot of research on here before purchasing my Indurons and time and time again the customer service received great commentary. I really hope that they make this right for you.

Sometimes the added weight of an aftermarket "power handle" is just enough to cause the reel to engage when you cast. Not necessarily anything "wrong" with the reel in that case.

I too had the exact same problem you had. Mark was very helpfull, but the first time I sent it back it continued to have the same problems. After the second trip to California they put a "new" part in the reel and it seems to be OK now.

Take a look at the ABU 7000iHSN reel, this reel has 29" of line pickup and will burn DCG10-13 with ease and is right about the price you want to spend.

I haven't had any problems with Induron so far and I have a lot of hours on mine and have fed it a steady diet of abuse. Without any problems, I haven't had a need for the customer service everyone raves about. It seems from all the posts I've seen here that Okuma's customer service and support is good, maybe best-in-class. The Abu products in that price range haven't been a good alternative, at least in my experience. The last time I ran a bunch of Abu in my boat, I started the season with 3 brand-new 7000iCS Pro Rockets, finished the season with zero. One of those reels literally ended up on the bottom of Mille Lacs after it's third failure drove me over the edge. It's somewhere on Garrison Reef if anyone wants a broken reel.

Dont waste your money on that reel for big blades. It will be a bear to reel, and it will likely blow up on you right quick if you are using it for blades.

I like the reel for plastics, topwater, small bucktails, etc, but it is not the reel you want for 10s and 13s

The 7000i is in the same price range and will do much better for the blades

If you find the 5.3:1 is to tall of a gear send the reel to Rollie & Helen's and they will install a set of gears from the 7000i - 4.1:1 gears in the reel for you or buy a new one that they have converted, the 7000iHSN is a little lighter and is smaller - not as wide as the 7000i, and holds less line. No reel will last long burning DC10-13, but at least alot of reel repair centers in WI, MN, IL, will have parts in stock for the 7000 ABU reels, which is a very easy reel to repair yourself at home or on a fishing trip as long you can find the parts you need.

Pikemaster have you ever casted a double ten side by side with someone who actually has a reel that can burn them with ease? Like a Trinidad 16N. You are never going to keep up with the Trinidad with the same amount of effort. Not a chance. Try it.
Has anyone had any issues with the Indurons anti reverse going out ripping cranks?

capt ahab the ?? from ILmuskyhunter was a reel for the same price of the Induron that could handle DCG10-13, he did not say burn them, I think a Induron retails for $130.00-$150.00 so the ABU 7000iHSN retails for $159.99 and has a line pickup of around 30" with 5.3:1 and the 4.1:1 around 22" with a full spool. The Shimano Trinidad 16N retails for $410.99 and does not have a levelwind, I would not recommend a reel like that to someone leaving for a trip to Lake Vermilion in a week. I have a TN16N and yes I know what U are talking about burning a DCG10-13, I run the reel with 100# braid and about 85% full spool, I now get about 34-36" of line pickup, so can you say burn a DCG10-13. I have on loan a Shimano TN16DC reel from a friend from FL. and I really like the digital cast control system on this reel but at 23oz and $769.99 retail I think I will keep my TN16N. I also here a lot of talk about the Avet reels, but the Trinidad 16N is a hard reel to beat.

What is the diameter of the side plate on the Trinidad 16N. I just wanted to compare to what I have now.

Thanks

The Induron retails for $120.00. I ran double 10s last year and this year with the power handle without harming the reel, but I wouldn't say I was burning them.

If you know where to look, you can buy a new Induron 400 for 80 bucks. That puts the other reels discussed here at twice the price, but one needs to match the tools.

I have several 400 models in use now in my family, have not had an anti reverse go out yet. Check to make sure you didn't get oil in the anti reverse bearing.

The Induron is a great reel for the $$$$, $80.00 for a new one WOW. if you blow one up then just maybe U need to look at how you are using the reel. I hear guys blowing up Daiwa's, Shimano's. Why do some guys have no troubles with a reel and the next guy blows THE SAME REEL up in a week ??????
