I know guys love their Sling Blades, but is the Legend series worth the extra price over the Premier? I've got a Premier now, the 8' Heavy, but I'm looking to add an XH, and and am looking at these two lines. I've not cast or even handled a Legend series as there's just no where around here to do that. (You'd think on the shores of LSC there'd be more in the way of muskie gear available other than at Gander.) So to those who have them and cast them, is the Legend worth the extra $140? I don't mind paying the money, but if it's just the lifetime vs 5 year warantee and the IPC and ART stuff that St. Croix talks about on their website isn't what it's cracked up to be....well lemme know. If it is worth it....well lemme know...

I own both and the answer is yes. The premier is a great rod, but the Legend tournament is definetly a way nicer rod. Is it worth $330? I don't know. But I can say that they are fantastic rods.
I didn't really notice the difference until I used my premier earlier this week for a couple of hours and then I picked up my Legend Tournament. WOW! What a difference. If money isn't the issue then I would definetly pick one up.

Cool. Can do. So....what's AMAZING about them? I've got no problem buying one, I'm just looking for reasons why they're worth it and why they're amazing, as I can't handle one myself and will be buying it sight-unseen for Thorne's. I think my Premier is just fine, so how is the Legend better?

Don't mean to nit-pick, but I can just go blindly buy the top of the line and not know why....just wanna know why.

Much better rods--they are lighter, they LAUNCH baits on the cast and according to friends of mine and my local dealer, they very rarely get a broken rod to send back to St. Croix. There really does appear to be something to that ART build process which gives them their strength and durability. I have 2, the Sling Blade (which I got to replace the Top'n Tail for big blades) and "The Jerk" (best jerk bait rod I've ever used by FAR) and along with my Frank's custom Diamondback, are the 3 best casting rods I've ever had. Are they worth the money? They are to me...they're versatile and I've gone from 9 casting rods down to the 3 aforementioned rods and I'm glad I did.

I am a big fan of the St. Croix PM rods. I own 6 of them (2 are in semi retirement due to the move towards longer rods). Although I can't qualify myself as a LT rod owner as well, I can say that I have yet to find a reason to depart from the PM lineup in terms of how the rod handles. I have never had an issue wiht how much the rod weighs or how thick it is. Main difference that I can see is that there are some different lengths and actions not available in the PM lineup. Would love to se an 8'6" HF action in that lineup for example. There tends to be a year or two of lag between when rods are introduced in these two lineups.

All that said, I would probably go ga ga for one of these rods If I owned one of them. I just choose to deprive myself of the experience so that I don't know what I am missing...

That's where I'm at too. I think my PM is great and I've never thought to myself that it's too heavy or anything like that. Good to hear both sides of it.

You can use my Slingblade if you want since you are correct that there are no SC4 in SE Michigan. Cabelas may have that you can handle.

Dude, I'll take you up on that! When you gonna be on the lake next? I can meet you out there and make a few casts, and that'd be awesome.

Well I am heading out tomorrow morning for the day. Or you could come over and take it for the day when I am not using it.

FYI my musky rods (personal use) are built with a revolver twist to the guide spacing.

I'll be out tomorrow too. Where are you launching from? Time? I'll be out of Harley at about 730 or 800 fishing until about 230 or 300.

You can get me on ch 16, hail esoxfly.

It's like using a 100 dollar fly rod and then picking up a 500 dollar fly rod.
The rod-making is getting very specific in terms of castability and flex instead of just......M...MH...H...XH.... letters really don't tell you much, but the entire LT series was built with several thoughts in mind. Casting, fighting, retrieving, comfort and more.
I remember picking up a $1,000 Orvis fly rod once and thinking, "I would definitely be able to fish better with this."
I also remember buying my first set of Pings and watched my scores drop as I hit the ball farther and straighter.
Quality is impossible to hide. From your first cast, you'll feel the difference.
