I'm looking for a rod for throwing mags but also pounders. Currently I have a 8' 6" st.croix extra heavy and it throws mags great but I feel its a little light for pounders. Does anyone have any recommendations for under 200 bucks. I was looking at at the MI super mag rod so far..

Location: Illinois | the M.I. rod you mentioned will work perfectly another one I've used and liked for pounders is the St..Croix 7'9"XXX There's a lil' buzz over the new Okuma rods as well, they just recently hit stores....

Posts: 133 Location: Wausau, WI | The Tooth Tamer XXX Jawbreaker is a great rod for Pounders. In addition, it throws Mag-Dawgs all day long with little effort. I believe the Jawbreaker is priced around $149.99

Location: Illinois | The reason I'd go with a St.Croix: (besides being top quality) The have the best warranty/exchange program in the biz, click the link to see for yourself. http://www.stcroixrods.com/content.asp?id=14

Tooth Tamer has a lifetime warranty and they are available at Rollies, Ross's sport in Phillips, Some stores in Hayward also. The Jaw breaker will throw baits as heavy as they come.
