I like to loosen my mechanical brakes up pretty much all the way regardless of what baits that I cast. I had the mechanical brake knob fall off of my reel during a cast and watched it sink to the bottom of the lake. Is this part very necessary for a person who loosens the brake all of the way up anyway?

I had a nick in mine from that that cut my line and cost me three $25 baits before I figured out what was doing it and how it happened. Good Fishin' Tim

Posts: 27 | I recently purchased a record 61 ( 2 months ago) and the other day the nut that holds the handle on poped. I didnt think anything of it until it started getting loose. Then every time I would try and tighten it, it would pop loose again. Then finally the other night i was reeling in and the nut came off and went right in the drink. I guess my question is, is there an easy fix for keeping the nut tight that I could just do myself? Andrew
