I dabble in fixxing reels and a buddy asked me to try to do something with his son's hand-me-down Quantum baitcaster. I opened up the reel to find that a zillion hours of wear shredded the magnets such that particles of metal had migrated throughout the reel including into the bearings. Beyond my ability to fix it, so I call my friend with the news and he tells me that his son will be VERY dissapointed because that's the reel that his son's hero, Kevin VanDam, uses. See, VanDam is a local fishing legend and his family owns a fine sporting goods store in the area. What to do, what to do? So I drop a polite note to Mr. VanDam explaining the situation and he immediatly responds by sending the kid a brand new Quantum Energy baitcaster reel. Needless to say, the kid is just thrilled to receive such a kind gift from his hero.

So, please, tip your hat to Mr. Kevin VanDam!

That's pretty cool. I saw KVD on I-94 East a couple weeks ago. He was driving one sick rig. He had his son with him too. Seems like a super nice guy.

That would be D&R sports in Kalamazoo Michigan. It is run by Kevins brother Randy, I believe. they are also one of the few tackle shops in southern Michigan with a quality lineup of Musky Tackle from what I am told.

Yes, the store is D&R Sports (just west of Kalamazoo, MI) and the phone number is 269-372-1945. They do have some cool musky stuff, including those fine Stealth flouro leaders.

Awesome! Hard to tell what somebody is like on TV, but I've always liked KVD. I did see him at the Bass event they had on Lake Wissota a few years ago. Seemed pretty down to earth.

Met KVD a few years ago at the Bassmaster Classic. Truely a class act.
