When changing out my lower unit oil I was a bit low (4 OZ) on oil and it had a couple drops of water in it. Nothing to alarming. However, I was wondering if anybody ever tried some type of leak stop in the lower unit? Also, if the bearing and gears are still good how hard is it to change the main seal? Is it something that a handy guy like myself could do?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hiya,

I don't thing the job would be hard to do, but I do think it would take a couple of specialized tools to do so.

Best to get that seal replaced, though... As for stop leak, probably not worth trying since water is going in and oil is not coming out. I think the difference in pressures would still allow water in since it is in the direct opposite direction of where the leak-stop is placed...
