I fish Silver and sometimes Red Blades on my bucktails. I was wondering why red is getting fazed out a bit by orange blades. Is there a time and water color for red blades and Is there a time/water color for orange blades ? Why is orange blades so popular compared to the dark red blades nowadays ? Thanks. . . . When do you use Green blades ?

for me that's just a confident thing, the only place where i like to see red is just over a daredevil when i do some pikes.
orange will stay orange at deeper level of water, red will change faster

I have a spinner I made this winter that has 2 green translucent 10's on it from r&h. It's matched with a color changing red to green flashabou. It really flashes on sunny days. I've had a few follows on it so far. No takers yet though. I am sure I will be trying it again tonight.

Green blades excel on dark water and during low light conditions.

Red is for super clear super shallow. It will basically become black with a little tint or a bit of depth.
Red is the goto color for LOTW's
Orange is great for the metro.

I like orange in overcast or dark conditions, I have a few red bladed tails, havn't caught anything with the red yet....but there is something about red though, the red/red cowgirl has been money for some and if I remember correctly the red glitter bulldawg was the money color on Mille a few years ago. Also the red and yellow eagle tail has been a staple for many for years, so if it works as a color on a body of a lure I can't see why it wouldn' work for a blade color....I think also red becomes more of a gray color, the deeper it goes rather than black, but I could be wrong....

Red turns black as the wavelength is filtered from the spectrum.

Orange...

How does one 'make' orange? Mix red and yellow. Is the base color yellow, or is it red? Is it over a neutral primer, or bright white? Is it thick coated or thin? That will determine the contrast level, and that is what counts.
