Hi All,

Went out last weekend for some skis. Started off fishing double 10s and 12s and after the weather settled down, got a few follows with no strikes. Switched to slower baits including gliders, plastics, etc. to see if they wanted a slower moving bait. Once doing that, we never even got a follow. After switching back to the double 10/12s, got a few follows, but no strikes. It seemed like they were interested in the fast moving lures, but not interested enough to hit them. They werent interested at all in the slower ones. We did get a couople fish, one on a bulldawg and one on a believer which was a fish that followed the buckatil minutes before.

Bucktails = 8 follows, no fish
Slower baits = 0 follows, 2 fish

Any suggestions of anything else we could do to get those follows hitting? we tried verying retrieve speeds, etc. they just wouldn't strike.

Thanks guys,
Matt

Bulging the big blades, color switch-up, blade style, smaller blades. . .

Sometimes window shoppers are window shoppers, not much you can do at times. In my opinion, seeing that many fish and catching two others means you had a very good day and rather than you asking for advice, perhaps there are many who would ask for yours.

Well said. I am up in the Kawarthas up in Canada and fish a small lake that holds lots of fish, so it is common to see a lot of fish when out for a weekend. The quality isnt always the best, but the quantity is usually up there!

The only thing we didnt try a great deal were smaller blades. I am back up in a week and a half, maybe Ill give those a shot for longer periods of time. It took about a day and a half to find where they were, but you are right, when we did find them, we saw good numbers of them.

Thans for the advice!

I would keep throwing those bigger bladed bucktails to get as many follows I can get. Mark each follow (were it was). Then when you come back to that marked spot (on a weather change or right before dark), take off the bucktail and then put on one of those slower moving baits.

Another thought would be to try to have a "Follow Rod" ready with a Gator Tube. Lot of times when you get lazy, non aggressive follows they work really well. Also, when you are in a slump of lots of follows with fast baits but a few fish with soft jerk baits, I would stick to the soft jerk baits...LOL! There is also a new bait out right now called a Shadzilla. Its a 9.5" hollow belly swimbait. They are a good straight retreive bait with lots of rolling action like the believer but body wag like a bulldawg.

Hey Clint, finally got out on a local lake with the Shadzilla last Sunday. My buddy got 2 (40"& 46") on the Midnight Sucker color...I got to film it with our new underwater camcorder...just need to get it up on the website.
