| I am looking for how to retrieve with a reel that does not have a level wind, and keep it even on the spool. I have never used a reel that wasn't a level wind, but am now looking at one for cranking the big plastics and magnum spinners.
I found some mentions in other threads that it's not that hard to do, but I am looking for a little more detail before I drop the money.
Do you use a finger to guide the line on? It seems to me that would be difficult to do.
Thanks in advance |

Location: c.wis | if you dont fill the spool all the way and when you load the line load it to the outsides of the spool, so the spool looks like a v, then the last 40/50 yds spool to the middle that way the line you cast comes from the middle and the line on the outside of the spool acts like a levelwind, well kindof- otherwise like the big saltwater standup rigs u can guide it on with your finger. id look into a tekota with the levelwind -jmo |

| I have a PENN 975 w/ no level wind with 80# Tuff line with no problems. Although the line doesn't spool onto the reel perfectly level each time it doesn't affect the performance of the next cast. Forget guiding the line onto the reel with your finger. It's not needed. Its a great reel for long days of cranking big blades. |

Location: In a shack in the woods | Only fill it about 3/4 full and make sure your rod tip is pointing at the lure on retrieve. If it's not the line will build up on a side and your next cast will backlash for sure. I own a tekota and a torium. I like both but the torium pulls line in alot quicker. Power handles on both but tekota is easier to crank due to lower gear ratio. |
