| Going to Sabaskong Bay LOW for the week of June 20. Any suggestions on good baits for that time of year there. I assume we should use smaller sizes? Thanks! |

Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | A good friend of mine puts on a black Bobbie Bait and pretty much keeps it on until the fish move out towards more rock structure. Another favorite of his is the wade's wobbler.
I'm partial to spinner baits myself (fudally candy spin & stump hawgs, M&G.)
A few other popular baits among some of the anglers I know are the sledge, suick, believer and various surface lures.
Hot colours seem to change from year to year, but black, black/orange, black/chart green, black/silver all pretty reliable choices. |

Location: North Saint Paul, MN | I was up in Sabaskong at the same time last year and will be up there the same week as you this year. Can't wait to get up there. Only a month away!!!
Last year what was working for us was a 1 oz. magnum jig head with a skirt and a shad body. We were mostly straight retrieving at a medium pace. We went through a bunch of them during the week. I made sure I stocked up this year. That will be the first thing I throw this year. Saw most of our fish on those baits. All variety of colors. Every color we used had the fish moving.
Spinnerbaits are also a good option. Moved some fish on those also. |

| Thanks for the info so far. I have some Jmac jigs with some shad bodies that I have never really given a good chance. Will try these like you have suggested, Mitch. I have always had good luck with Wades Wobblers in the fall when we usually go, and I know I will use em when we go in June. Mitch, where are you staying? We usually stay at Split Rock but the guys(not me) want to stay at Nestor Falls this year. |

Location: North Saint Paul, MN | We stay just north of Nestor Falls at Red Deer Lodge. Our group of guys has been staying there for almost 40 years now. This fishing trip has been a father-son tradition for nearly 40 years. It started when my dad was about 12 years old. It used to be a walleye and pike trip, but now it's evolved to a Muskie trip and less guys going. This will be my 18th year going up there. This is by far my favorite fishing trip I take every year!!

| 6" Reef hawgs, smaller Big Games and Fudally Muskie Candy spinnerbaits. I'd throw in a couple Raddogs for good measure. The biggest fish I've seen on LOTW in 22 years was 30yds from Lecuyers dock and my personal best came on a 6" Reef Hawg, opening weekend of 04'. A LOTW legal. Heaven on Earth. |

From a biological perspective, how does rotenone impact the viability of consuming fish? There's a koi pond nearby that needs some pruning and with the economy being what it is might as well not let anything go to waste. |

| Thanks for the info Steve. You guided my son and I on Mille Lacs 2-3 years ago. We did not see any muskies, but the next day on our on our own, my son boated a 43" northern on a spot you showed us. He has a nice replica on the wall now of that fish. Is it true that you are not guiding anymore? Go Hawks! |

Location: Southern W.Va. | Listern to Steve!!!! Been in the boat with him a total of 2 times and both times he's shown me 50" fish, just couldn't get them pinned to the hooks. Best stick I've had the pleasure to fish with. By the way Steve, I'm gonna end up with that red-tiger Big Game that moved that big fish on the "Big V" one way or the other, best hide it when I see you again!!

| I looked up Big Game lures on the net and it looks like they are alot like Crane crankbaits. I have had good luck with Cranes but bad luck with their durabilty. Am I right thinking Big Game cranks might have the same action as a Crane? |

The Big games don't have as tight of wobble as the Cranes and in my opinion are more durable. The Cranes still make a great bait that has it's time and place though. Taking some time off of guiding this season(and perhaps next) but one never knows. Hopefully will have Summers off in a few years. 43" Pike? Awesome! There are some Monsters in Mille Lacs, but one year they're accessible, and the next they're using the abyss. have a great trip to "The Bay", my Happy Place. |

Location: Forest Lake, Mn. | When I started muskie fishing I had to buy every lure in the store. While I still carry a boat load of lures that are never likely to see the water on any given trip I bring them all because I'm never sure just what might be working. I'm starting to learn what Dick Pearson, and Buck Perry before him, preach. Lures are tools. Look at the area being fished, what depth, water color, speed, cover and pick a good hooking bait that's appropriate to the spot being fished.
So, what to fish Sabskong in the spring with? Most likely you'll be fishing weeds and shallow. Spinnerbaits/bucktail on one rod, topwater on another, jerkbait glide or dive and rise depending weeds and depth, maybe a crank or twitchbait, finally a jig or soft plastic on a different rod.
Pick your own favorite brand lure for each catagory and stick with it. Is a Rad Dog really any different than an M/G spinnerbait, or a Suick from a Bobbie? I'm sure you already have all the lures you need in the boat already. |
