Ahhhh....jsondag, a marina rat. Those were the days, uh ? I spent 3 years at Honokohau and 2 black marlin seasons in Cairns before moving "up the latter". You know i.e., choppin' bait for chum, chasing for 80kgs of ice, kissing the Cobbers arse and basicly the captains butt boy. Alot of fisherman who haven"t gone offshore don't understand 30 stiches from a 'hoo, being tail whipped by a mahi or a billfish taking a 1/4 inch of flesh off the forearm (never been stuck though, you?) How about a Cobber fighting a grander for 9 hours and you run out of drinking water! Licking the blood of a fresh caught skipjack sure is refreshing, you know. Those experiances are priceless. I think the musky guys are special, there's many of these guides (who are good) haven't ventured far from the lake. The clients want more. Not just some local guy or a rich guy with a nice boat. Clients want to hear the stories. js, tell your story they will come, your book will be filled.

Yeah, I have a motto... It is kind of self-absorbed sounding but it is a valid point - "CAN YOUR GUIDE FISH?" There are so many guides for so many singular species. Because of their focus on one fish, they aren't fisherman in the definition created by guys like Hemningway, Grey, and even Goudy. I love muskies, they are my passion, but I have had 30+ years of experience of chasing fish in both fresh and salt. I have seen a lot and have stories of life, love, death, and glory on the water. It has been a hell of a ride - Hope it continues forever.

Those days will always be burned into my soul - I have an opportunity to go out on the GBR for 2 weeks in August. I'd rather go in September but hey.... Can't go anyway though! And yes, I have been stuck - right in the chest by a pacific sail off Acapulco. The bill went in about an inch, right above my nipple - It was a short fight, the fish was losing it's color, and I leaned over the side after I had wired it. I grabbed it by the bill, and the C&H Alien was lodged in the base of it. I pulled it back to get at the hook, and.... I don't know if I hit a nerve or what, but that fish powered up and lunged. Stuck me right in the chest. It was about a 130-140 class sail. So it had some power.
