| Howdy Folks,
I'm planning my 1st ever trip to the "Chip" at the end of August. I'll be there for a week, figure 1st day with a guide. Since it's quite a bit North of me ( Southern IL ) as well as August - should I worry about the heat? I would really hate to get skunked up there because of high temps..going for pike and musky. Any tips would be great.

Location: Northern Wisconsin | i dont think it will get too hot up there for the musky. when it is hot there is always a good bite at dusk and throughout the night. also when its hot i found some fish in the weeds by small islands. |

Location: BLOOMINGTON,IL | I spend a week up last year around that time and the weather was great! Over the last few years summer temps have been pretty good. I spend a lot of the summer up there - PM if you want to chat.

Location: Watertown, MN | Bryan, that is typically a good time for the chip, I would get with TY Sennet or Dave Dorazio for guides
Baits there orange cruch softail phanton, cowgirls, and topwater tail baits. in 2 weekends had to have Todd repaint my phantom, fish were coming unglued on it.

Location: WI | I have fished there in August for the last 3 years. Last year I went during the last week. Labor day weekend is not fun, LOTS of people! However, the rest of the week leading up to that was fine. Bucktails, jerkbaits, topwater..it all works there around that time. Ty Sennett's site has some good info on it (the fishing reports).
Tanner Wildes is a good guide there also. |

| As a typical rule, the nights start to cool off after the first week of august or so. It still might get warm during the day but the water starts cooling down. Hope you do well up there. |

Location: West Bend, WI | Bryan, don't get in the habit of hitting the same beat to death bars on the flowage. There are a million out of the way bars that don't see the near the pressure. If it is your first time on the flowage get a GPS and watch you locator. I've seen guys damage there motors here. Getting a guide is a great idea, it will shorten your learning curve. Good guides mentioned in previous posts. PM me and I'll give you a few spots if you interested. I usually don't worry about the heat too much. We hit it hard all morning and break when the sun it hottest. Then hit it again around 4:00. That seems to be when the fish are most active anyway. Watch the moon phases! |
