Looks like spawn and post spawn time again. This is a very hard time to pattern muskies but patterns do develope. I like to tease them with twitch baits and glide baits. One or the other usually will work for me. Some times it changes from morning to afternoon depending on the weather.

Fast erratically twitched minnow baits can piss a fish off and get it to hit even though it's not hungry.
Slow side to side glide baits can also trigger a muskie because it's an easy meal and worth the little effort to eat it.

Anyone else have some tips to share on catching spawning or post spawn muskies?

I've had success fishing them with jigs, usually 1/4 ounce stand-up models with a small Creature. It's especially fun if you can 'sight fish' them.

My son and I have found the same thing. Sight fish using bucktails or 1 oz. jigs with rubber baits snapped off the bottom as they cruise nearby. That sudden snap seems to catch their interest. Let the bait sink all the way to the bottom and lie there. Snap up sharply when they swim close. Works in clear water really well.

O use a 10" 60# seven strand leader with 100# hardware. Works great.

In northern wisconsin they changed the opener to fish muskies to a later date. This so no one would bother them at the time of spawning. Everyone put up a stink when Dan Meyers wanted to make the opener earlier as it once was. Now you guys talk about targeting them. Whats wrong with that picture?

I only fish muskies in LOTW and Crow Lake out of Nestor Falls, Ontario.  With an opening date of the third Saturday in June chances of finding spawning muskies are slim.  My post reflected tactics for sight fishing POST SPAWN muskies.

I use 100 lb. Flourocarbon leaders I make myself.

when fishing indiana early in the year i like to use hell hounds and slammer drop belly gliders.
working them painfully slow too.....usually get smacked on the pause
up north, hayward area, i prefer, 9" grandmas or jakes and 6" & 8" slammers
rip and pause, rip and pause, again the hit usually happens on the pause
on the slammers i change out the thin wire hooks to a 4x VMC, so the bait rises slower

Actually Don they were finishing up.

Post spawn was the normal opener and lots of people encounter these conditions during the Southern Wisconsin Opener. I don't know of anyone who will take a extra couple weeks off after the opener to make sure they don't target spawning fish. The opener is the opener. Game on.

I don't target spawners. I look for the warmest water and post spawn fish. I have boated 12 fish and only took 2 pictures. Fast water releases make the catch quick and easy on the fish.

Glide baits and jerk baits work for me during these condition. Twitch baits rock when the fish are active during the feeding windows.
