Posts: 233 Location: Iowa | I bought a terrova for my boat. I finally got it out on the water today and my X-51 finder up front won't read right. It would read somewhere in the 400' range in 4' to 6' feet of water. Any ideas on why it's reading like that? Thanks, Jeremy

My guess, it's the trolling motor.

Posts: 233 Location: Iowa | Well I just looked up on minn kota website and the universal sonar must not be so universal. On there compatibility chart and its not on the list. They have x-52 and x-59 but no x-51. And the guy at cabelas told me it should do the trick. What the? Maybe excuse to get new electronics? I'm planning on getting new ones anyway but was hoping maybe next year. Hopefully lowrance get all the kinks out of these hds units. Besides the price, it looks they have quite abit of potential. I'm curious how much the add-on side scan is going to cost? Jeremy

I'll bet you have a connector that fits on a trolling motor that has the original universal sonar. The Terrova has the Universal Sonar 2, which is suppose to be better. Here is the link to the connector you need. It's the second box from the top, X-51 is in there. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.j...

Posts: 233 Location: Iowa | Nope, I just looked at the package it come in. Thats the exact number that on it. MKR-US2-10 Cabelas website says it should and minn kotas website says it won't. I might have to make a phone call tomorrow. Jeremy

Posts: 215 Location: Twin Cities | I dont know if your problem has to do with this but I thought I might add it: The trolling motors with the US2 (Universal Sonar 2) cannot be connected in a trolling motor circuit that connects the trolling motors to cranking battery by way of a ground wire. This includes most "charge on the run" systems. Also, Depthfinders using the US2 cannot be connect to either trolling motor battery. They must be connect to a separate circuit from the trolling motor. The trolling motors with the US2 have the transducer grounded internally to reduce the chance of interferance. This grounding will cause a short through the depth finder circuit if the depth finder is connected in the same circuit as the trolling motor batteries.
