| Bucktails are massive in America but over here (UK) there success rate is , to say the least, indifferent.
Maybe its down to our lower water temp.
Or are we fishing them wrong?
I would expect to catch on Bucktails at about 17C, good ripple on the water and cloudy with sun peeping through with a medium retrieve with fast bursts and of course close to cover.
And that’s it .
Other conditions I would use something else.
I would be extremely interested to see how you fish them.

Location: In a shack in the woods | I mostly fish them fast over reeds or shallowflats but I see people casting them everywhere and anywhere. I know people that cast them in 20 feet of water consistantly and still catch fish. |

The only BT I have at the moment is a Bucher 700.
It will only seem to function at medium to fast just underneath the surface.
Are you saying there is a way to fishing them deeper or do you just let them settle on the bottom and rip them up to the top?

| I think the biggest difference is that when the water starts to warm, pike and musky have different habitats. Big pike usually settle into the deeper water and scarcely come into the shallows. Musky, however, come into the shallows consistantly. A bucktail is normally used for shallower situations. |

| Don't know the Bucher 700. For pike try a willow leaf blade such as the Mepps Giant Killer. If the fish are in shallow water, a French style blade will do. |

Location: SE, WI. | I agree with the guest comment saying pike tend to drop deeper with warming waters. I do not agree that pike and musky go different routes. As waters warm...over a period of time musky also will drop down in cooler waters, Maybe not quite as deep as the pike.
My suggestion for fishing the blades. If the pike are in the shallows, then fish the blades. If they have dropped down, start fishing deep running cranks, or jig spinnerbaits if you choose to fish blades. Another option is a Jig and creature combination. Pike love jig and plastic dressings. You could also jig creatures with blades attached if you so choose.
I was never a big fan of bucktails for pike...BUT a spinnerbait is something pike really love. White spinnerbaits and blackspinnerbaits with orange blades and a double white twister is automatic pike. Trailers are a big factor on spinnerbaits. IMO |
