Has anyone who has one of these notice the first eye off the butt side is off set to the left about an quarter inch from the rest? I just noticed that lastnight. Im figuring they did that to help keep the line coming in and going out straighter?

I used to use the Compre Rods - When they first hit the market they were a pretty good product. Then it seemed they were produced with a lot of inconsistencies. I have had crooked guides on several, and even had a tip fall off on the first cast one time.
Honestly, a quarter inch is pretty substantial when you're talking rod building. Maybe they're trying something new - But I doubt it. You may have just got a lemon.

i have one musky compre and 5 bass cpmpre and all of them are great rods. like jerry said, i think you got a lemon but i do think they have a "over the counter warrenty" so you can take it back and get a new one.
lots of luck

Love my compres and that offset eye seems like a big oops to me. Lifetime warranties also can't be beat for a rod of it's quality and price point.

Compres are great rods for the price and the over the counter warranty rocks as long as you can find a store with your particular rod in stock. Not many carry the 8' rods for some reason.

Any store that carries it should just exchange it for you, but call shimano if you dont have a local store that has them.
They have you saw the rod in pieces to save on shipping!!!!

Yeah I just bought it, its was an 8ft one I had BPS order for me. I looked last night, and was like WTF, then I have seen some custom rods that actually swerl thier eyes so when you are fighting a fish it keep the stress off the reel and reel seat better. I will take a picture tonight and put it up here and see what you all think. I thought it was actually a good thing, but maybe not! lol

I have also seen rods where the eyes are swirled around the rod, Can someone explain why or the reason or the advantage or disadvantage of this. I have been told by a custom rod builder that you get longer casts, but I'm not really buying that theory. (yet)

Basically the swirl will keep the line straight when the rod bends while fighting a fish, that all I thought it was for, I just got off the phone with Shimmy and they told me "uh yeah its not supposed to be like that so you can take it back, but it wont hurt anything if you use it that way" WTF? If its only the one eye wont it wear the line all messed up, because it would zig zag off the reel from the first to the second eye? Looks like I am going to BPS today.

Not to worry. For the price the rod is very good. We've been using them for years. And the warranty if anything does go wrong is top notch.

They make too many rods at factory, they probbaly inspect one rod out of 75-100 if its pass then the rest of batch passed the inspection. The rod's qualitiy are very good. I love mine so I bought another one. Hoping to buy 8' in future.

I was considering one of the 8's for a new jerbait rod anyone really like the 2-6 oz. I finally have rid myself of all my old broomsticks not really looking for an 8' one now. I figure it's gonna be stiff but was hoping for a slightly slower action then the 6'9" H I used for years.
