I want to try making my own fluoro leaders. Do you make them like wire ones are made or is there a trick? How do I know what sleeves to use?

Are you planning on using a knot, sleeve, or knot and sleeve? Sleeves can be figured out by knowing the diameter of the fluoro that you'll be using. I use 130# and use double barrel sleeves with mine. I also use a knot for added security.

I am planning on using knot and sleeve on 130 pound. Is there anything special I need to do so the End parts don't wear out the line?

Esox what size sleeves are you using?

I have been using 100# triple fish fluoro with palomar knots for years....never had a knot failure or a bite through. Just FYI...

I use the #1 double sleeve from Stamina. Not sure what you mean by end parts.

snaps and swivels is what i meant by end parts. wouldnt the constant rubbing of these parts wear out the line? just a thought i am curious about. dont want to lose a fish because of me forgetting something on the leader

don't use berkley. I stress tested the 100 pound and was only getting 45. Thats not good. They sent me a new package and had the same result. Seaguar, palomar, sleeve, and a little super glue under the sleeve and on the knot before crimping. Use ball bearing swivels. Make sure when you tie the knot, you spit lube the line to prevent heat.

I use #5 ball bearing barrel swivels and #5 Crosslock or Staylock snap(whichever one has the circle to go through).

What I was trying to ask is there anything I need to put on the line because of the constant rubbing of the swivel and snap?

I don't use anything on mine. I think you'll be fine.

I would strongly suggest using a big game scale and have a friend help you stress test your different techniques to see whats the best methods, doesn't hurt to break a few before you take a chance on a potential trophy.

I will test the leaders and all will break the line at what it is tested for. I will make them up in 100, 130, 150, and 200lb test, I will change out a leader on every trip and give the old ones to my poor friend who will use them all season and never have I or my friend have had a leader break.
