| If it's all about numbers of fish, or sizes of fish, than there has to be a formula you could use...
Fish per hour of angling, with a handicap that factors in the number of fish per acre; combined with average size as compared to the size distribution of that particular lake ecosystem.

| Who says Laz only fishes out east? Who says he only trolls? Unfortunately not many guys are ever gonna find out how good he is. How do YOU know he hasn't fished LOTW or Mille Lacs? He is one of the only guys out there that never pubs himself and very rarely do you ever hear things about him from his guys. Why? Because when his guys talk about his numbers and the areas he fishes people look at them like they are bold faced lying to them. He really is that good everywhere. There are also a ton of awesome musky fisherman out there, so don't rank them, it's an insult to all of them. |

The best musky fishermen are the ones who have gotten a kid hooked on our sport. And the best are the ones who have hooked two or more. |

| New to the site - Great info here!
I have fished with a couple of guys in this chat... But there's a big dude up in the Big Dtroit area named Jerry Sondag. He catches boat fulls of big fish all over the world not just muskies. He knows more about fishing than anyone I've ever met. Including some of the "famous" guys out there. He's probably going to be mad at me for saying all of that, but I fished with him 3 times on 2 lakes in the last 2 years. We caught 7 fish... All over 46 with the biggest being 54.5. I was talking to some guys from one of the Musky inc. chapters in the cities and they were telling me he has more documented 50 inch plus in the last few years than most have caught in there entire life. This is going to embarrass him pretty good but He deserves it. Hopefully he won't beat me up |

Location: Muskegon Michigan | Larry Ramsell told me last year in Chicago that Lazarus has forgotten about more big fish then the rest have caught. He would be my first choice. Then Rich Clarke,Doug Johnson, Al Linder, there are so many but really only a few who are special. Tom Gelb in a row trolling boat  with frozen fingers. Thats hard core man. Kingfisher |

I don't know who I'd choose for Muskie fishing, but if you want a chance at a trophy BEAVER... I know a guy named Norm that is the best in that field! I think he guides for them critters too.

| Bob is up there. He fishes native fish which is much different then the stocked lakes many guys are working now. Much more difficult. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I'd say in order to be called 'the best', one perhaps should exhibit due respect to one's peers, to those who have dedicated their entire educational and professional life to studying and managing the resource, and to those who have done much to forward the sport, while participating in/working towards conservation efforts in concert with those same folks...as well as extraordinary ability to catch Muskies. But that's just me.
One of the folks I'd say has done all of that and alot more and is a top shelf muskie angler is Paul Hartman.
