Posts: 443 Location: Duluth, MN | I've never done any lure building but wanted to try doing the shallow invader modification to move the rear hook back further. So i bought some .051 wire blanks. It's alot tougher to bend than i thought it would be. Anybody have any tips or pictures showing how to get a twist like you get on bucktail. I can't do it with a needlenose. And the Du Bro twist devices are for much smaller gauge wire. Thanks Edited by Lundbob 3/15/2009 8:48 AM

Then give the wire about a 45 degree bend to one side, bend back over to make the loop, then wrap to finish. The round nose makes a huuuuuge difference in bending verses a standard needle nose.

Posts: 20230 Location: oswego, il | That is a great pictoral, I bend the tag with my fingers unless there is not enough to get leverage on. The other thing is the wire heats up when you bend it and you will sometimes burn your fingers. One thing to consider with the shallow invader mod. I don't use that heavy of a wire. I use 124lb which is smaller than .035. Reason being, I have tried it with .051 and it makes them sink slow or ride with the nose way up.

Posts: 443 Location: Duluth, MN | Excellent pictures. It went much better my second time trying. I don't have the round nose pliers but my loop turned out good enough and i got a nice wrap on the ends. Thanks

Posts: 27 Location: SW Ohio | Thanks for the tutorial Yake. I just bought a pair of the round nose pliers and started twisting up some wire this weekend... your technique looks a lot easier than what I was trying to do. My thumb is still purple.
