Posts: 5193 | This reel seems like a tank, and it is light. Could it hold up to these monster baits? This seems like a great lefty option for musky.b Edited by 0723 3/4/2009 10:11 PM

Posts: 463 Location: Sw Pennsylvania | My guess is it would hold up for awhile but more than likely let down after a short period of time. My 2 cents

Posts: 1270 | Could it handle a double 10? I suppose it could but the question is could you handle it? It is a small bass real that after the cast would just about be out of line so you would have no retrieval speed or tourque. A much better option would be the Revo Toro in either 50 or 60 size. These are available in left handed also but they aren't a cool black and yellow color!

Posts: 375 | now if you wanted to use that reel for throwing small bucks / rattlebaits / spinnerbaits that reel may work just fine. i have been using a shimano curado 201dhsv with a 7:1 ratio with 65lb braid that is super light weight and it works great for musky when used with the above mentioned small baits / light weights and it is a lefty reel which is super important to me.

They make a high capacity version now... I just saw the new Abu Revo's at a the indy boat sport and travel show this past week. They make a 6600 REVO, which is basically the same size and same gear ratio as the Shimano 300DSV. They look pretty cool, but are pretty pricey...same as the Shimano....about 250 bones. They have the same high speed retrieve too....which means it's probably not ideal for throwing double 10's. It prob would last for a bit and then blow up in a catastrophic gear fart. But it would be awesome for other baits.

Posts: 1270 | Halfpint, The Toro 60 is bigger than the Curado 300. THe Toro 50 is basically the same size as the Curado 300 but has more drag and a synchronized level wind which the Curado does not. The Curado is only available in a 6.2 gear ratio and the Toro is available in either 5.4 or 6.4.

Posts: 392 Location: lake x...where the hell is it? | i would NOT use the S.R. REVO for tens. it is NOT made for that at all. how many big bucks do you see REESE useing? NONE!!! you will kill a very nice reel that way. why do you think guys are useing 7000's and saltwater reels for big bucks now. i got a TORO 50 and i plan to use it for tens to see if it will hold up. i also have a REVO SX-HS for bass that is a great reel but will never use it for tens but have thought about useing it for smaller ski baits. anyone else use one for smaller baits?

Posts: 27 | How does the toro 51 feel compared to a 301 size wise in your hand? Does the Toro 50/51 feel like a low profile? Or does it feel like a 5500? THanks

Posts: 1184 Location: Iowa Great Lakes | The Toro 50 is basicaly same size as a 300 Curado, the Toro 60 is bigger. Both Toros are Low Profile reels like the Curado. Leftys were on sale here last week for $180 in the 50 and 60.

Posts: 1184 Location: Iowa Great Lakes | Fishermans Factory Outlet in Spirit lake Iowa, not sure if they have them listed on their web site or even have any left. I picked up a 60 I'm putting on a Sling Blade for double 10's and put the Curado to use as something else, maybe gliders or a 2nd cowgirl rod
