| Here is a lure history question for folks that know their stuff.
Back in the day, when I was a young pike fisher, I bought two Creek Chub Pikie Minnows, jointed, to use as shallow water trolling baits. The black and white version produced fish. I then put down the rod for more than a quarter century.
When I went back to the water to relearn how to fish--this time for muskies--I bought a couple more Creek Chub Pikie Minnows, the kind now on the market. They caught nothing and the action of the lures was disappointing.
Remember that Arthur Lawton used Pikie Minnows to great effect up on the St. Lawrence. Tony Rizzo talks of them in his books.
Did the quality of these lures fall off? To what extent? When did the original Creek Chub lure company go out of business?

| Actually, the new Pikies(muskie size) are made from wood. At least the ones I've seen are. Big girls LOVE wood! |

| the original creek chub bait co. in Garret ,Indiana closed its doors in 1978.Creek chub actually started mass producing some plastic baits in 1956.In 1961 was the first year that the plastic pikies were made,so Art Lawton would of been using a wooden pikie when he landed the disqualified world record in 1957.

| The pikies that are made by the Creek Chub company now are made in China out of Jeutlong wood. It is a much heavier wood and doesn't have the action of the older style baits they made. The ones you should be looking for are made of cedar, and there are still builders out there that make Pikie minnows out of cedar. |

Or, search: "creek chub pikie" on EBay. You will find many original, wood Creek Chub Pikies for sale. |
