| So I FINALLY go and pick up the motor I bought used, 08' Merc 90 4-stroke, 10hrs on it with an Extra Long 25" shaft. Beautiful motor for what I paid. One of the reasons I purchased it, was because I was assured by my BOAT dealer, that the switch to a 20" shaft was easy, and only around 500$. I ended up going with a different boat/dealer then originally planned and when I arrived there with the motor today, they said it was a huge deal and going to be around 1500-2000$ (Canadian). ???
Does anyone have experience switching from 25" to a 20" shaft in the newer merc 4-strokes?

| Ended up going with a Princecraft Hudson DLX WS. 9 foot rod locker, high decks, 19', only 1133bs. ...seems to be a nice Mucky platform.
...I actually figuered things out today. Ended up trading in the 90 and getting the boat pre-rigged a 115 opti for a couple bucks more. My dealer ended up quoting $1200 to switch the 25 to a 20". And I also could have sold the extra parts on e-bay.
For what I paid on the upgrade though, power and warrenty wise, it was well worth it.

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Sounds like you came out ahead on that one to some extent. What I was going to suggest is to get a 4" manual setback plate which would have allowed you to move the motor back and up...and it would have only cost about $150.
But now..you have more "umph" and that is always a good thing..

| Put a jackplate on it and you'll be fine. Im sure you can find a use one somewhere at a reasonable price. |
