| I'm shopping for an 8'6" musky rod to throw double-10s and magnum bulldawgs, and would like to spend no more than $200. I'm looking at the Bulldawg 2-10 oz. Heavy, Tica, Okuma EVX, St. Croix Premere, and Lamiglas.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!!

Location: WI | For magnum bulldawgs and double tens, I'd go w/ the 8'6" XH St. Croix Premier. I think it's right around the 200 mark. |

Location: Iowa | I have two 8'6" TICAs and i really like them. They are a solid rod for $130 and if you have limited space like me, they telescope down to about 6'10".

Location: Ogden, Ut | I've been very happy w/ my 8 1/2 foot Okuma telescoping rods. The Heavy is rated for 1-8 oz. and the XH is rated for 4-12 oz. Both collapse to less than 7' for stowing. When I got them, they were retailing for just a bit over a hundred bucks. I've got 2 seasons on the heavy and one on the XH w/ zero problems. They throw larger lures w/ no problem, but being a slower action, the figure 8 w/ double 10s is a bit of work; a faster action rod would be a better choice. I doubt you'll find a truly fast action option at the price you are willing to pay. That 'soft tip, fast action' feel seems to come at a bit of a price premium. At the price point, they'd be hard to beat.

Location: Central WI | Not sure on the prices of the other rods, but I just ordered the 8'6" XH Premier from St. Croix and it was $199 so thats within your price range. I'm pretty excited to get out and try it. |

| I just ordered a custom from Pro Edge on the Premier blank for $225. Plus I get all the options of custom and his zirconium guides and fat cork. Worth the extra cash. |

Location: Right Here | I bought an 8'6" "C" series Thorne Bros. custom last year and threw everything with it all year long. I've got a 9 footer in another brand, but threw the Thorne 95% of the time. I picked it up at a show for a good price, but think full retail is around $165. VERY pleased.
I was impressed with what I seen of Hulbert's new rods too. Obviously haven't fished them yet, but seemed like they'll be good rods for a good price.

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | The 8’6” XH Lamiglass rod is by far the best I have used to date. The rod will throw anything from a #5 Musky Killer bucktail up to Mag. Dawgs. Heck it would probably handle pounders, but I didn’t try it. The Lami’s action is a bit softer than other rods of equivalent rod rating, but I have found I prefer the softer rod. Much better for keeping fish on, as well as the rod launches baits better on the cast do to it loading up properly. The rod handles ripping crankbaits wonderfully, and is also good with double #10’s.
I know anyone that has been in my boat and used my Lami’s has fallen in love with them!
