I'm looking to buy a couple new reels for the upcoming season. I've already have some 7000c3i's. I use them for almost everything and love them. But now I see that there is a new one coming out for 2009. It's the 7000ic3 CT MAG HS. It has a 5.3.1 ratio and looks like a smaller capacity (20/270) compaired to 17/325. I've been on Abu's web site but I'd like a fishermens point of veiw before I drop $300.00.

Just wondering if any of you have any experience with these new reels. I'm mostly going to be burning smaller bucktails with them and tossing dawgs. My 4.1.1 7000s I'll basically only throw double 10s.

Any info would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks

The reel 7000ic3 ct mag hs is for surf fishing, look at the 7000iHSN in comes with 5.3:1 gears, 29" line pickup, go to R&H they have them with 4.1: 1 gears also, about 23" line pickup. GOOD LUCK

Thanks PikeMaster.
Will this reel stand up? The big game 7000hsn would not. So before I buy I'd like to know if this one will.
Thanks again

I wouldn`t buy the 5.3.1,I`ve had mine in to get fixed twice in 2 years,I would go with the 4.1 .

IT does not have a level wind so that would knock it out of contention for me for musky fishing. It's advantage is that it has a magnetic cast control which is nice to have when you are trying to chuck a 2oz/ bait 200yds but not really very usefull in musky fishing where you are tossing a 4oz+ bait 50yds. at the most.

I have a 7000C3I and used it quite a bit last year. It is a very good reel for mid to heavy weight lures and is extremely durable. I set it up on my 7'6" heavy fast rod for the big bucktails and big rubber type lures. It is also a super reel to use for trolling applications. The Line out clicker is much better than the standard Abu line clicks. The heavy duty handle is also a real plus. AR bearing on the crank is about twice the size of a normal C3 or Record style reel.

Two downsides are the additional weight (due to heavy duty construction), and tendency for line to loop below the levelwind pawl screw cap when casting (it is bigger than a standard C3). I would not recommend it for throwing the lighter stuff.
