Posts: 23 Location: Mt. Prospect, il | I bought a curado dsv 300 off of ebay (said brand new). After reeling in the retrieve direction and stopping it has a very slight reel back. All my other reels once you stop retrieving the handle stops dead. I was wondering if this was normal or broken.

Posts: 2024 | I'm not sure that's normal. I have one that I rip big plastics and twitch gliders with. This puts quite a bit of strain on the anti-reverse and I haven't had "slippage" occur... yet. I've thrown other baits with it too and have yet to experience any back play. I'd send it to Shimano and tell them the anti-reverse is beginning to slip.

Posts: 14 | All the Shimano baitcasters I've used all have the slight backplay. My brand new Calcutta TE has it as did my Curado 300DSV when it was new. Been on many forums trying to get to the bottom of the "problem" and even the reps will tell you that there is just a common and inherent issue with this on their baitcasters because of the anti-reverse bearing they use. Some people claim their reels don't do it but many others do, and many of them being brand new reels.

Posts: 2024 | I know it may seem like a blatantly obvious thing, but try tightening the handle if you haven't already.

Posts: 23 Location: Mt. Prospect, il | I went to the sports store a picked up a new curado 300 dsv and a 200 to test it out and experienced the same slight back play. Was not expecting that. I was 3 Abu's and a Okuma that dont have any back play.

i've got 4 of the 300dsv reels, there's a slight backplay in each of them. that being said, it's very nominal and hasn't had an impact on my lure actions, hooksets, etc. whether there's any backplay or not isn't my first point of comparison: speed and durability are more important to me. it's an extremely fast reel and that speed more than makes up for any handle-play when working jerkbaits, w-t-dog topwaters, ripping dawgs, etc. i've also found them to be more durable than many other options (i even use one on my pounder rod), and that makes me very happy.

Posts: 1516 | What is the difference between the 300dvs and the 300E. Is it jsut a change in the model year? I don't see and 300dvs on the tackle shops websites.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | The 300E are GREEN, Shimano has replaced the bushing #btn3521 with a bearing on the drive shaft, a new Titanium line guide for braid, the pinion support bearing is now rustproof S-ARB. If you have backplay in the handle, clean out the anti - rev B and just reoil, that will help a little if you have a lot of play replace the bearing. I have a 300E and the handle has the same backplay as the 300DSV. Edited by PIKEMASTER 2/8/2009 5:34 PM
