Anyone have any experience with fixing a speedo on a boat? What are the most common causes/fixes for speedo issues? I'lltry to get more specifics on the speedo for clarification. I know its not a paddle wheel. There is a opaque looking fin shaped probe on the transom.

Go to a 2 piece. Sorry, I couldn't refrain. It might be a vacuum problem. Try this link - http://www.speedoclear.com/

Probably the diaphragm or the tube leading from the pick-up to the speedometer. Check to make sure the pick up is clear, then check the tube, then see if any water has been coming out of the gauge, if there is, it's the diaphragm.

I'd first try checking your connections to the speedo if you haven't already done so. I've seen the pitot tube come a little loose.

Okay I guess I "Tee'd one up" for you guys on that one. But thanks for the input. I havent noticed any water coming in through the pick-up or near the guage itself. When I get my boat out of storage I guess I will disconnect the hose from the guage and check for obstructions and go from there. I'm assuming low pressure compressed air going from the guage end of the hose back out would possibly clear any obstruction that may not be removed by other means. If its a diaphragm issue, can that be replaced by itself or would I need a whole new guage???

The obstructions are usually right at the pick-up. Most often it a a small piece of wood or heavy vegetation in the pickup, if it is indeed clogged. Spin a small drill bit in your fingers in the pick-up. If it catches, pull it out.
