Are new topraiders supposed to rattle, or does rattling indicate the internal weight is loose. I've got 2 brand new topraiders that both rattle the same as my used topraiders. I thought topraiders were not supposed to rattle, but now I'm not so sure.

Not suppose to rattle- like you said the internal weights are loose
there is a fix for it- if you are patient- drill a 3/8 hole on top of the head set the weight back in its place using a small screwdriver and foam fill then epoxy over the hole and sand smooth just be careful not to use too much spray foam because it expands a LOT !

Supposed to rattle? No.

There is a thread on here with pictures of how to fix your "broken" Top Raider's internal weight problem (adapted from Jason Schillinger's process). Try typing in "Top Raider repair" into the the search function for the forums (can't perform the search on my computer for some reason).

Yeah, you don't want to mess with that.... Go ahead and just send them to me and get yourself some new ones. I'll make sure they get into the garbage for you!

I have 2 brand new, straight out of the package, never cast topraiders that rattle. Oh well, I guess I'll either fix them or catch fish on rattling topraiders.

All of mine have rattles in the tail. I have about 6 now.

I guess it's possible that the newer versions have rattles. Is it coming from the tail section like Ryan stated or from the middle of the bait? If the middle then it is probably a loose internal weight.

I hate the fact that I have to fix a bait for something that is obviously a common problem. It's ridiculous. I'm ordering Water Choppers, Pacemakers, AHL baits, etc. from now on.

I wonder how many fish guys have caught on them before they even noticed the rattling noise? Like the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke don't fix it"....As long as it "PLOPS" Keep throwing it"

Once that weight comes loose, the bait starts rolling which twists line and reduces the exposure of the front hook and reduces the 'pop' of the tail.....at least the ones I have had with the weight coming loose.

I actually checked all my TR's some are old- and to my surprise there is a small rattle in the tail section I can't believe I never noticed it- however it is rather quiet not much louder than the hook bangin around thats why I probably never noticed - if the main weight is loose which is usually caused by bouncing the lure off a rock( Whoops)- you really know about it - as the baits will roll as mentioned above- sorry about the confusion- M.M.

So, TanMan, if you have an issue with the Top Raider, call Tilky as he suggested. Or, fix them. Either way, the Top raider is an excellent lure with a great reputation.
