Just curious with the state of our country's current economy, will you be fishing more, less,
or the same amount of tournaments this year? Hopefully this stays clean and does not lead to a "bash fest" on tournaments or particular tournaments.

I'll fish the same amount. Still love to compete. And the money isn't bad either.

I believe they will all suffer. There are getting to be more and more and someone will suffer. There is only a pool that consits of a certain amount of aglers that wish to fish tournaments. I think they will pick and choose which ones they will fish. Its gotten to be more expensive and it does not look like the economy is going to get better that fast. Its also hard to to tell the wife your spending that kind of money and the kids needs braces to. We will see but my money is on all of them suffering this summer. I hope I'm wrong and they all fill and that in 2010 it will only be better

I think they will all flourish, though it will take more than one year. More competition improves any sport. Having the MAC in the mix with its higher prize money will draw many of the most talented anglers out of other events. Consequently, many anglers, heretofore previously hesitant to fish the older events as they lacked the confidence to compete due to the quality of the fields, will now feel their chance for a good payout will dramatically increase since the "cream of the crop" will have moved to the higher payout/higher profile MAC tourneys.

I see the MAC eventually becoming the PGA Tour of musky tournament fishing, with full fields of the finest anglers. Other trails will become the Hooter's and Nationwide Tours, with full fields of very talented guys trying to move up the musky angling pecking order. Another comparison would be stock car racing with its local tracks and circuits, the Bush series, and the Nextel Cup.

As the MAC becomes nationally recognized, media exposure, rising purses, and the prospect of becoming famous will draw more fisherman into the world of musky tournament angling. This can only lead to the betterment of musky fisheries everywhere, as states look to improve their musky stocking efforts in order to realize the economic benefits afforded by hosting such events.

I fully expect our neighbors north of the border to encourage the MAC to expand their high payout format into the Canadian shield and points further east. Not only to realize similar economic benefits, but out of a sense of nationalism.

Quite simply, the Canadians will want the best musky anglers competing in the best musky tournaments on the best musky waters in the world. Well, most Canadians anyway. I expect the vociferous opposition by French Canadians recently expressed on this Forum to continue with Napoleonic intensity going forward.

That's how I see things unfolding, and it's only my opinion.

Kevin

Strong competition begets improvement.
