Location: Minnesota | 3 feet or so is probably too long. The only problem you will have is casting a bucktail that is much longer than about 14 inches unless you are using some pretty thick steel for your wire. They can bend when you try to cast them. It is not like lobbing a 2 pound rubber bait - there is generally more wind resistance with less weight in your bucktail. |

Location: La Crosse, WI | Here is what I used last time I went. It is 20", but plan to fish with bigger ones this year. It all depends on the class of fish you are targeting.
The top one is over 30"

| Interesting replys. I've posted this same qestion on some other muskie sites and the responses have been quite varied. Some say over 15" is too long, one guy on another site has pulled them up to 30" and caught fish. We build bucktails for wholesale and retail and kinda want to get a feel . We are putting some prototypes together for our field testers this summer. My father got me into muskie fishing 50 yrs ago and I remember him using some very long crude looking bucktails then. I wouldn't guess how long they were but certainly alot longer than whats available out there now. Thanks everyone for your input |

| I've got to agree with Mike on this anything after 15" seems to be tough to keep moving on a figure 8. But maybe I'm wrong. |
