Are the mag flash packs 20" in length? Do you just cut this in half and use one pack to tie your 'tails?

I've got a bunch of leftover blades, beads, etc. and was thinking about picking up a few packs of the mag flash. When I was doing this last year using the regular cut flashabou I was having difficulties getting the flashabou to spread evenly over the coil and wouldn't know until actually using them. The material would bunch up on one side of the bait behind the blades leaving a big portion of the rear hook exposed and not visually appealing (to me anyway, the fish might not care). Suggestions? I remember being quite envious of the guys tying customs in the Mayhem booth last year, and was rather frustrated with my shortcomings. About one in every 3-4 would turn out OK...

I bought a bunch a Mag-Flash from a shop here in Milwaukee.
Anyway, I took one half and tied it on a coil, and then took the other half and tied it on the coil a little farther up, and it filled in beautifully. Lots of action in the water, and still with that see-through effect. It's also very tough, and one strand takes up a lot of space. I like it and will get more to work on some buzz-baits that I'm doing.
Winters were made for making lures.

Sean, I made a couple for my own use last fall. I pretty much did what Beaver did. I cut it in half and made two ties. It was pretty easy and they look good in the water.

The stuff I used was 20" long, I got it from Stamina.

What I have done seems to work pretty well. Ill do the best I can to describe it so bear with me.

Ive cut a treble hook up so that only one hook remains, with the hook that is left, I straighen this out flat and bend the barb down so that you can fit a piece of coil onto it. I "screw" the coil onto the barb with the barb acting as a threading agent and "locks" down the coil. I usually thread the coil down onto the barb until it gets to the "bend" in the barb. This secures the coil on there without it wanted to spin around. I use my vise to hold onto the treble hook and it allows you to tie as many wraps as you like. This works well if you want to combine different colors of flashabou. I usually do about 4-5 ties per coil so that you dont place too much flashabou in each tie and have the chance of it falling out, plus then glue and thread doesnt get in there to secure it. The system works well cause it essentially holds everything in place similiar to when you are tying a fly. I usually cut the package in half so each tie in made with 10" strips. When I get home, I will take a picture and get in on here so it makes more sense.

if your mag flash is looking a little bit thin or scraggly, put a layer of regular flashabou over it to fill in the holes and give it some volume, also help tint the overall color impression a little and looks cool.
