| Great questions, Slamr. I'm also very interested in learning more about sucker fishing. I would add this question for the experts.....
#5. What type of rig do you use with your suckers?
Slamr, regarding being slapped across the face with a sucker, are you armed at the time?

| Ranger: my number 5, I use rigs from Wisher tackle. Simple and havent had any failures yet. I prefer one single jig-headed front hook, and a single treble leadered to it. They make kill rigs, which I don't like, but other than Mania Rigs, which I am not smart or talented enough to use, I'm sorta stuck with the Wishers as the only ones I like that I can buy in the area. Why don't I buy'em on line or via catalogs? No idea...

| Slamr, I have seen Pete Maina jig the sucker and reel it up slightly. I have seen that trigger fish for him on tv. I don't always see the fish so if I feel weight I hit it. In those cases they are not moving away and may drop the sucker so I might as well go for a hookset. I have been burned plenty by waiting for that fish to do something.
As far as suckers being alive in warm water, remember what I told you sat. about chillers. I seen two fish sat come up for a look at the suckers as I checked them and both were nice fish. |

| i guess i am just not a live bait kinda' guy when it comes to muskies- unless i absolutely have to use live bait... even then- i would rather get one fish on a big crankbait rather than get many muskies on suckers... i don't think other people should feel the same as me- but that is how i feel about it... i use live bait for panfish and walleye- maybe that is why i don't like it for skies... | 55sfire,
Don't even START to think that using suckers for skies is in ANYWAY an automatic ticket to getting into fish. Conversley the amount of putzing with the suckers (keeping them out of weeds, unravelling them when they catch themselves in the rigs, keeping them out of the motors, your baits you are casting etc.) is a whole nother job when fishing.
