| Todd:
The questions you ask are part of a very complex equation.
"Which strain lives the longest?"
Actually, this could be misleading. Some of the "stunted" strains live quite long, they just never grow big.
"Which one can tolerate higher water temps?"
Obviously, this would be fish from souther climes where the summers are long and hot.
"Which one will grow the largest?"
The track record here speaks for itself, just look at the records of where the largest muskies have come from. Easy huh? Actually, it may not be. Man's intervention over the past 100+ years "may" have possibly had something to do with a number of the top fish. It has to do with genetics and is too complex to go into here.
"Which one will grow the quickest?"
Here again, it depends on many factors. For instance, Leech Lake fish stocked in a Wisconsin lake grew to 54 inches and 38 pounds in 10 years! But, no competetion and good forage base. Same fish in another lake may not do nearly as well.
"Which one is the most agressive?"
Probably not the answer you were looking for, but the ones fished the least (or hybrids). A good friend of mine that catches LOTS of big muskies claims that the biggest ones are the first ones caught in a "new" area that he finds. Top of the pyramid type situation, I guess.
Go and throw and throw and throw....
Muskie regards,
