I have had my 100 HP 4-stroke Yamaha motor for a year now, and I keep having problems with it. It does not like to idle when the motor is cold, and once in a while it seems like it is only running on 3 cylinders. The only way I can get it to run decent is running the fast idle from the start, and that still doesn't fix it totaly. Has anybody else experienced these problems, and if so have you found a fix? I keep bringing it into my dealer, and they just tell me they can't duplicate the problem. I need help.

One thing to try: When you start the motor cold, have the high idle on as you start, choke it a bit and get it started. Let it warm up in high idle for about a couple of minutes. That will get the engine warmed up. A cold engine normally will not idle well. It will have a tendency to want to quit and sputter.

I would assume that after you have had the motor running for a while at higher speeds things are fine?

Yes, most of the time it is alright after running it at higher speeds, but there are still times that it seems like it isn't firing on all cylinders. A lot of vibration at idle, and will not plane out even at full throttle. It will tend to choke itself out also if you don't let off the throttle.

I'm now having trouble with my F115 Yamy. Mine idles great and starts like a champ... but when coming down from high RPM's it kills as soon as the throttle kicks into idle gear. Also had a period over the weekend where when you put the throttle down it would bog down and limp along like a scared puppy. Just no juice. My dealer is changing out my spark plugs and putting on a new prop (thanks to a fine STUMP) tomorrow... so hopefully my problems are resolved.

I've never heard a BAD thing about the Yamies.... until I owned one. Hopefully this isn't a trend.
