I was just wondering if anyone knew how long the project on lake wingra was set to run, they have penned off an area, which I believe was to study how the carp affected the lake and the penned area was the control. If this isn't what the study was about I would like to know what it is for and any results on it?

they pulled the exclosure out this year, so i assume they're done collecting data, it will be interesting to hear the official results if/when they are released.

my understanding is that the exclosure was designed to keep carp out of that areas of the lake so that they could study the impact on water quality and native plant growth. i don't know the scientific results, but i do know it resulted in extremely clean and clear water inside the exclosure!

also worthy of note is that a huge number of carp were netted and removed through the ice last winter; anecdotal evidence would suggest that the result was a good one: cleaner water this year meaning muskies could feed more effectively resulting in some bigger and fatter muskies caught out there this year...

Yeah I would bet the water in the enclosure was much nicer then everywhere else, I heard about the netting and it may have been noted as a success early on but after the number of carp I personally watched go into wingra this year I don't think it made a dent in the population at all.
