Hello,
I want to buy a new 301. I went to gander mountain and they said that shimano is already making changes to the 301 and will have a new version soon. Does the older model have problems?
Thanks

This link will help you see what's going on with the Curado. Read down thru the posts and you'll see not much is really changing. The thread mentions the 300, but of course the 301 is just the left hand retrieve version. When you get to momuskies and pluggr's posts, you'll see not much is really changing.

I was told that the only changes being made to the 300 series is the color of the reel. The changes to the curado are taking place in the 100 and 200 series. I recently got a curado and I absolutley love it! You wont be disappointed!

The problems were with the 100 and 200....too big and heavy, plus no HEG on the 100. The new 200 is smaller than the old 100 and has HEG. The 300 from what I've read is the same thing, only green. So if you can still find a great deal on a 301DSV, don't pass it up. I have a 300DSV and love it. Although, they do have competition from Abu Garcia now...I can't wait to check them out.

The 300E has a couple new items over the 300DSV. 1 - On the 300E Shimano added a bearing to the drive shaft, 2 - added a titanium-nitride line guide 3 - the drive shafts are stainless steel, the 300DSV had brass, and they will be GREEN. If anybody wants to talk to a SHIMANO REP go to www.tackletour.com and go to the forum section and look for the factory rep sec.

if anyone is interested, i stopped in the cabela's store in wheeling, west virginia yesterday and they have the curado 301dsv (old style greyish color) for $179.00! i've seen them as high as $249.00 elsewhere! since i use left handed reels i had no reason to ask if they had the right handed 300's as well. they are very very nice reels but my daiwa lunas can't be pryed from my hands...:)

i love the Curado 300/301 reels.

i use them for everything from 6" twitch baits to Pounders, with the exception of double-10 bucktails. best general purpose reel i've ever used for muskie fishing, hands down, and the only reel i haven't been able to blow up through normal use muskie fishing.

i've got 3 right now and plan to buy another one this winter.
i've got no deal with Shimano, i just love stuff that works produced by a company with a track record of making quality reels.

I agree with Lambeau. Great reel for just about everything (I've got one on my Dawg, zig-zag topwater, and glider rod). Also good for burning Rat-L-Traps and throwing smaller baits in the spring. Casts like a dream is easy on the hands.

I got my father the 301DSV for X-Mas last year. He has smaller hands that fatigue quickly. He throws just about everything with it. Was a great investment for him. Very glad I did it.

Do a search on Ebay and you may find the 301DSV for a good price (under $200). I bought mine for about $180 on Ebay.

I love the curado's too, I have 3 of them. However I don't have the same track record as others, 2 of them are in getting repaired now, anti-reverse going out. 1 was well seasoned and not surprising, the other was 3 weeks old without ever having a backlash or otherwise. This is also the one that the "yoke" broke on, twice. Once costing me a VERY big fish...something very goofy about that reel, just seems to have problems. I hope it just ends up getting exchanged under warranty.

I've seen a lot of variation from reel to reel when purchasing in terms of play in the spool etc. Some feel tight, some don't. I have 2 other friends with these reels who have noticed the same thing. I pick out the one i'm going to pay for.
